Default Which setting (FS9 or Graphics card) to reduce "jaggies"? (screenshot)

I can't seem to get rid of these on aircraft textures. I'm using 1280x1024x32 resolution/color. Global textures set to "massive". For some reason I can't get "Aircraft" settings to "Ultra-high"...it won't stick, and reverts back to "High". Perhaps some type of system limitation?

I've tried setting AF and AA on the nVidia card, like most here, but it's a MAJOR quality drop on my system, for some reason. My best terrain texture and FPS are AA-"allow application..."(with AA checked in FS9) and AF- 8x, with "tri-linear" set in the game.

Many of these, I suppose, would have no effect on the jaggies on aircraft. I would like to know a direction I should take. Hardware upgrades are acceptable suggestions (see sig).

Also note, when I start an XP Home "performance" graph, then fly...I'm always maxed out on CPU usage, until I close FS9. Is this "normal" for a system comparable to mine?

Any info appreciated (yeah, Mike...I'll read a manual if necessary
    :-tongue )

Back in the windows desktop, open up your display settings by right clicking on the desktop and click on properties. Then click on the settings tab, then advanced button. There should be some settings for your GF 4 in there. Look for FSAA or anti-aliasing option. You claim that doesn't work, but it should. Don't let the application take over the FSAA, manually force it in the nvidia settings, and dont have it checked in the FS game.

OK Ryan...I'll try it again. But the last time it was really ugly, big pixellated ground textures, loss of FPS...

    But...who knows?

    Thanks.

Guess you have tried running at higher screen resolutions? What res are you running at the mom?

I'm wondering if your card is actually "installed" in your system. Its probably plugged into the AGP slot but has it been recoginzed and installed?

Take a look in: Control Panel /System /Hardware /Device Manager.

In the list click on the Display Adapters listing. When the list drops down you should see an exact listing for your card card. If all you see is a listing for a VGA driver or card then your card isn't installed correctly.

You shouldn't see that many jaggies even if you have AA and Anistropic completly off--especially not at the res your running. Check it out and see if the card is actually installed.

    prowler,

You don't say what drivers you are using. I had some problems forcing AA with the original drivers that came with my GForce 4200Ti.

I now use the 52.16 drivers from the NVidia website and run 4XS AA and 4X AF with nice results. And as mentioned above, just remember to set the AA and AF with your video card settings outside the sim. If you let the application control AA, it will drag your frames down too much!

Also, I found that running the sim at the same resolution as my desktop gave the best results. If I try to increase the game res to 1280 x 1024 (for example), my frames dropped.

    Good luck,
