Default Printer (to print FS9 related stuff)

last time I asked a question on scanner, was told to stay away from HP and get Canon (which I did, LiDE-50 it is).

    Now printer, Canon again?
These are the options below, look it up and tell me what to go with:

    HP Deskjet 3650/5150/5550

    OR

    Canon bubblejet i455/i560

I have a Canon BJC-7000 Photo Quality printer but use many different varieties of HP printers at work plus I think it may have been one of my posts that steered you clear of the HP scanners (two Scanjet's have historically and still give me problems at home namely:- the 4100C and 5300C models - mostly on the software issues).

Funnily enough the HP printers at work give much more reliable performance than the Canon. I have had to have a new MB fitted to the Canon, still suffer from erroneous "error reporting" find the cost of the ink replacement horrendous and print head cleaning has to be done very often to maintain quality prints. This time I'd go for HP.

If you end up without preference I'd take a good look at the cost of those replacement ink cartridges taking the actual amount of ink into consideration of course. My particular Canon does not lend itself easily to 3rd party cartridges or fillable kits either.

I just bought an HP All In One, I think its great! After looking at the cost of ink cartridges, the HP carts seem too be the cheapest. This suprised me, as I have always gone with Epson.. But, I didn't want too spend another 50 bucks too replace the ink that seems too only last about 5 months. So, the HP is an excellant find and is a fantastic printer.. The real kicker was, I only paid 35 bucks for it.. Someone had bought and couldn't make it work, so they returned it and it was fixed and put back on the shelf and it works awsome.. Lucky me!

After seeing problems and high ink costs with HP, I always go for Epson. My scanner is an Epson 1660 which does flatbed, slides and negatives. My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 890 as I do a lot of photo editing and I need that quality. The printer may be a little more expensive than some, but the ink from PC World is about £16 for black and £15 for the colour. I have no idea why the black is more expensive so don't ask.

thanks people, two posts in favour of HP, Canon is out of the game. I've also been hearing some good rummors about Epson, are those dudes that good?

let's get down to models now:

    1. Epson inkjet C64, 17ppm (the only one 17ppm by Epson, all others are slow).

    2. The one I prefer most (as long as you approve it): HP inkjet 3650, very compact, which is its strongest point.

I've never had a problem with my HP Deskjet 672 since I bought it four years ago. Prints as good today as it did the first day.

By the way, it's compact profile was a deciding factor back then, as available space in my computer cabinet was a concern.

Also keep in mind that you can save money on ink by purchasing store brand cartridges made especially for your model printer. I know this is the case at Staples but I'm sure you'll find them at other such office supply stores.

ok I got the story regarding cartidges, to tell the truch, I care less about cartidges, $5/10 doesn't make difference to me. I just care about printer. My current one is like what... over 5 years Canon, a true junk.

HP-3650 (see pic above) is what I like and what I want, just need an approval first (everything I have is officially "flightsimcom-forum-approved"). If not, then I'll see what else I can do... For now it is HP-3650. Yes or No.

Hi Tony, I have always had Epson printers and have pretty much always used non-Epson ink cartridges. I currently have an Epson 925 and get my cartridges from http://www.choicestationery.com I get 5 colour cartidges for £21.99 (+ 1 free at the moment) and 5 black cartridges for £16.99 (again, + 1 free). All prices include VAT + P&P. I have had no problems with the quality of the cartridges - you might want to give them a go!

I avoid inkjet printers, unless you really need color. I bought an NEC 870 about 6 years ago and it has been great. I have only replaced the toner maybe 3 times in those 6 years. With inkjets, I was dropping $30-35 on cartridges every 3-4 months.

Mine is an old model and I'm not sure if it is made anymore, but at least take a look at laser printers. Like I said that is unless you need color for something, then inkjet is the way to go.
