I did all the adding of the:

FSSound=1
and I still get the same error at the begining about it not being compatible...

Its FSsound.dll
windows xp defaults to do not display known file types option.. therefore, you most likely have two fs9.cfg 's in your listing, but in reality one is called fs9.cfg.txt or fs9.cfg.bak.. if you edit that one, it will not be read into flight simulator. It is created when at some point you editted the fs9.cfg file... to find out what the file is really called, right click , properties on it.. or, go into tools, folder options, view .. and select display known file types. Hope this helps.
Not sure what to tell ya other than it should look like what is in the attached photo. Make sure you don't have two sections in your fs9.cfg file, one correct and one wrong.
