Thread: KSEA is killin me!

  1. Default KSEA is killin me!

When I get the call to position and hold, I taxi out, about half way out my plane bounces, nose gear breaks and sinks into the ground and I crash. I've had it do this to me with 2 different planes, the meljet 747 and the ifdg MD-11. It's happening on 34R but havent tried the others..

    What's goin on?

I seem to have the same problem with some planes. I think the elevation must be off causing the plane to bounce and break the nose wheel. There are several airports were I run into this problem, only in most of them the plane just bounces ,you see a lot of tire smoke and rubber on the taxiway.

Ok.. so whats the deal, anyone in here know how to fix it?

That's strange ... I fly out of KSEA most of the time, and haven't encountered this. I usually end up on 34R.

I typically fly with the dreamfleet cardinal and various default stuff.

I wonder if there's some problem with the airport that only shows up with your add-on heavies?

Have you installed any terrain mesh in that area? I installed mesh there and had the exact same problem. I removed the mesh, and everything was fine again.

There was a problem with some of the addon a/c in FS2002 that occured when a tailwind of over 10kts was present while taxiing. This would cause the a/c to bounce, like hitting a huge pothole, and crash. A fix for this was to go into fsuipc and limit wind speeds to 9kts or less when a/c was on the ground. This solved the problem I had with the Falcon 50 and a couple of other a/c. I have not heard of this problem much with FS2004, but well worth checking it out.

This problem happened to me as I was taxiing to the departure runway, and in most cases, was with a tail wind.....as the taxi way parrallels the runway.....on a downwind heading. Do your crashes happen when having a tailwind on taxiing? If so, try the fix mentioned and see if that helps.

    Hope it helps....

No terrain mesh... and the tailwind thing doesnt make any sense in this case either cuz it happens when I'm pulling out to position and hold, at about a 30-45 degree from runway heading.

This is a pothole issue much like many other anomalies that are found with the default mesh in FS2k4. I've also been wondering why there is a framerate drop around the KSEA area. I haven't noticed this in other areas.

For those who are unfamiliar with this problem, download the Posky CRJ and taxi to the end of 34R. Move onto the runway and watch what happens.

Cool, at least its not just me.. I guess I'll just try to get around using that runway or something.. maybe taxi on over to Boeing Field on I-5 before I take off :)
