Thread: how to resize textures?

  1. Default how to resize textures?

    hi!

Does anybody know how to resize aircraft textures? I'm talking about the one from PSS (PSS A330/340)
It takes a while to load them in FS2004 and i'd like to resize them for optimal performance. from 1024*1024 to 768*768/512/512.

I've tried to resize it in paint, but the textures didn't show up..
    Anybody got experience with this?

    Thanks!

yeah you're probably looking for a more framerate friendly bmp format, I don't think you can resize the textures themselves as the model has been set up to read them in a certain dimension

No it hasnt. If you have a texture that is an equal size you can resize it all the way down to 64x64 and it will still load. Some developers have huge night textures that are just plain black, simply resize them as 64 x 64 and 256 colour and it will still look the same.

But I guess there is a way to reduce the image quality and to keep the dimension the same. This could help the FPS a bit, but the plane wouldn't look as good...

I downloaded DXTBmp a week or so ago and converted the large BMP interior files in the Eaglesoft jets to DXT1 format and now they're flying as smooth as silk. Maybe that's what you're looking for. Maybe not? There's a pretty good tutorial on how the program works. Didn't take me long to figure out the basics and make it work.

While your at the site above for DXTBmp also get convim, it is a good app. for viewing almost all the textures used in Fsim.

you can resize textures, but when doing so you must allways go by a factor of 2. in other words half or double the size; 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 square, but not 768 x 768

resizing the resolution, for example from 1024 to 512 will not help much, if at all. What would help is reducing the polygon count though.
Don't know if that's possible. Also, a lot of these new addons have 64 sided fuselages or even higher, and I think that can hurt performance too, like slow loading when switching to spot view.
