Thread: Where is the realism?

    Default Where is the realism?

    Hi all,

I am not sure if someone has any solution to this.

I like to try to put myself into maximum realism by simulating
that I am a commercial pilot and I therefore always create flight
starting from the same airport (Manchester, UK).
After creating my flight, here we go: I am in the cockpit of my 737. Whilst I go through my checklist and get clearance , ATC already gave clearance for at least 3 other airplanes. As I taxi I can see them in front of me......but this is when realism gets bad: As we appraoch the runway, the first plane already on the runway is ran over by the second giving an hybrid plane. One of these suddenly disappear and the third plane does the same as the second did.
None of these three airplane are given clearance for take-off so the hybrid plane compose of the first and second/third plane just stand
in the middle of the runway. AND THEN ATC GIVES ME CLEARANCE FOR TAKE-OFF.....HO NO!!! ARRRGGGHHHHHHH

Wow , that sounds odd. I've never had that happen. I've been in line ups with (a) plane(s) in front and some behind and they all behaved themselves. I've even been told to hold short of crossing a runway when taxiing as it was in use.

Does this problem always happen to you ? If so ,sounds like something is messed up with your traffic.

Don't waste your time fixing bugs. Go VATSIM (http://www.vatsim.net).

I have never seen that either. Must be some installation problem. I even use MyTraffic, PAI and default traffic all at the same time.

I tried VATSIM a few days ago. I had to install like 8 different tools. The launch process was a quite challenge. I got connected and everything but it was pretty frustrating with all these different tools and stuff. I gave up when I got disconnected from the server after like 5 minutes and cleaned up my HD from all these tools needed.

I don't know, maybe I should be more persistent cause I'd love to fly with real ATC. I hope this gets cleaned up and tools get consolidated. There's a task for a developer with time on his hands.

VATSIM is a hassle to get on with FS2004 right now but once Squawkbox 3 is out (January or so) it will be easy. I love VATSIM it is a great community and I have made many friends there. Trust me it is worth the hassle. Be sure to fly out of CYYZ (Toronto), they have an awesome staff there.

Just like to add that my ATC seems to behave quite well - escept for those occasional disappearing a/c if there are no parking slots available. Reckon I'll be busy when we get AFCAD too as many of my add-on scenery has My Traffic a/c parked with tails just visible sticking out of the terminal buildings - guess that eleviates the need for jetways though!.

Those are just the latest thing in commercial aviation convenience, drive-thru terminals. No more wandering around the airport, the planes can now drop you directly in front of the baggage claim. :7

Just a quick note about flying to or from CYYZ (Toronto) on VATSIM. There are certain routes to fly in and certain routes to fly out of CYYZ, the Toronto FIR Staff enforces this to make the airport operate as it would in real life.

It's no big deal, there is a list of preferred routes available on their website www.czyz.org . If you use one of these routes it will save you and the ATC a headache from changing it. It's not a big deal and Toronto has a great staff (I'm in training there btw, but I have flown many hours on VATSIM in the area.) Several of the members are also real life ATC so you get a really realistic experience. Just be sure to check out their website as it also has free charts.
