    Default What happened here?

    Hey Everyone,
Take a look at this photo... http://www.airliners.net/open.file/414638/M/

Where do you think the winglet ended up, or who would let the aircraft fly without one?

    :-waveCheers!:-wave

Edited photos dont go on AA.net. I think he meant editing by resizing and sharpening

Yeah, I didn't have any other comments. Maybe we can compare the same aircraft at different times.

Heh interesting... Earlier and later photos of that same plane all have winglets on them. Perhaps they were both (it appears the other side is without as well) removed or fell off or something...

I saw the right winglet, and didn't see the left winglet. I saw the left wing, so I think it was taking off.

There are 78 photos of C-GAGL at this site, the left 'winglet' is present on all of 'em that show the left wing, except for this one, specific photo...

Most aircraft, in addition to the Minimum Equipment List, also have a Configuration Deviation List. That is the list of airframe components that may be missing from the airframe and that you may continue to operate the airplane. For example, on the ERJ, we can fly without the refueling door (that covers the Single Point Refueling recepticle) on the airplane. If a panel or component is part of the structural integrity of the airframe, it can't be taken off the airplane. My guess is the winglets on the 747-400 can be off the airplane and the operator continue to use it in revenue operations.
