Thread: frustrated and angry

  1. Default frustrated and angry

here we are a few months since the release of FS9. many of us had spent £100s on addons for FS2002 (and previous versions), and where still buying them. Obviously we were all concerned whether our investments in our hobby would be wasted when the new version was released. We where assured by virtually all of the comercial venders that their recent and future stuff would all work with FS9 or would be patch soon after release, so there is no need not to buy. In fact some of the most recent stuff worked with both (and did so very well).

Now while it is reasonalbe to expect a short time to do the patching, we still have most of the stuff not working. they give us the excuse that M$ has not relesed the neccessary files; now this would be fair enough but for a few facts. These are; within a few weeks one vender had converted all there planes to run in FS2004, and supplied handy little tools to do so (although the VC did not work). Another, had converted all his FS2002 payware planes to also run in FS9 and relesed tham as freeware, AND produced another package that was totally FS9 ready, some firms have had trouble getting all the VC to work properly yet this person has managed to make a cockpit that is briliant, you click on the handles and the doors open, the windows wind down or up in the same way, all from inside the cockpit, even the Radio on the back seat works or plays CDs. yet others have been promissing for months that such and such a file will be ready in a few days. In frustration i have moved a few planes over myself some work some do not (i am only talking about GMAX), they all display but some will not take off, some take off then dive into the ground, etc., etc. I have no idea how to get them to work, so am just getting very frustrated, even some of the stuff made for FS9 is so buggy it cannot be used as it is intended.

if you write into their forums and ask what gives, you get told a few more days or when it is ready, if you moan you get flammed (granted not by the venders) by their minions saying why are we moaning; WELL WE HAVE PAID ALOT OF MONEY, and just want what we have paid for, that is why we are complaining.

Just take it easy. You can't fly all your planes at once anyway. Just stick with the ones that work for now. Sooner or later everything will be updated. No reason to get all frustrated and angry about it.

Supposedly this month the SDK is going to come out, which also doesn't mean that everything will be updated the same day.

I very much agree though with your remark regarding getting flamed on some boards when asking those kind of questions. It's pretty annoying and makes you feel like some of this community is based in a kindergarten or a madhouse. You would think the FS community is a lot more mature than that.

I make it a habit to not buy any payware. I've have in the past bought two aircraft. One will not be updated to work in FS2k4. The other was updated right away; but doesn't really work in FS2k4. I find there's plenty of freeware that does the job nicely. No need to spend money on addons.

I agree that we shouldn't buy any payware addon. There was a time that the freeware addons were almost 100% of the addons available (remember FS4 and 5). Now, by some mysterious reason, there are people who'd like to earn cash with our hobby... and I think it's wrong. We all should give a lot more credit to the people who design sceneries and aircrafts for FS with just the pleasure of making it and watching every simmer liking and having it in your FS too.

Because that's the real reason of this being a hobby.

    Anybody agree?

i agree wit u... but i guess some people work really hard on aircrafts which are advanced like the DF737...lot of hard work had gone into and they just couldn't sell it out for free. and yes.. someone people have started making a buisness out of the FS community ... and in the earlier versions of the FS almost all addons were free ... maybe all... but i guess thats not gonna happen now....
i just hope that aviation sites like avsim.com which provide a lot of freeware aircraft for free don't shift to payware.......
as for purchasing addons, i haven't purchased any so far...and yes, im broke cause im a student and many students are millionares .......... so .. i guess im just gonna go wit the freeware aircraft provided and stay happy wit it....besides, some are really fun to fly and thats wht matters in FS, having a good time and learning something from it :)

I prefer to fly airplanes, not open doors or play cds. Just my personal prefs...

so do i, but my point is the plane i mention has a fully clikable VC and flys very well, while some others do not have a working cockpit and some won't even fly, and i am only talking about payware here.

Granted there are very good freeware planes out there, but there are some who are not catered for, or the payed for plane is so superb in many areas, that is seems a pity that it is rendered virtually unusable in some small way.

I agree with most of the posts so far, but since nobody has said it, I will. The fault does not lie (generally) with the addon producers. The fault lies with Microsoft. Imagine this: the doddad that tells them how to write still has not come out (see one of the posts in this topic)!!!!

No, Microsoft does not seem to want to cooperate with the addon authors before the new FS comes out, and even later, well I just wonder if Microsoft has its heart in addons.

I can't blame the addon makers yet at least with what I have bought--and I have plenty.

Do you really think if Microsoft wanted to cooperate with the superb code writers in this hobby that they would have issued the new version so that the Autogen did not work right?

    Yep, blame it on Microsoft.

Well I have to admit that I'm not totally thrilled with FS9 and to those who sold their copies of FS2002. I would say that I think FS2002 still has a lot going for it.It's not that easy to convert aircraft from FS2002 so they will work in FS9, so recently, I have been going back to 2k2 for some enjoyment.
