    Default Water...FS9 VS....

I have been playing a demo tonight for the upcoming Military sim that I will let remain nameless. But they have a forum here too, so you know who I am talking about.

For all of you that thought its water looked incredible....Well it does if you are below 1,000 ft. Anything above that and its hard to tell texture and its like one big blue flat area. No changes in colors. Its almost like they took a single small jpg and repeated it over and over again. To me it was a big disappointment.

I feel like the water in FS9 is still the best water texture available. And if the colors are too bright for you, then there is a replacement set waiting for you in the library. At least at 10,000 ft in FS you can still tell there are waves and such below you. I have flown alot over water, as a passenger commercially, but I can tell you at cruising altitude, you can see texture in the sea.

Well, I just wanted to say good job to MS for this. Disappointing to Lo....oopps...well too bad.

But, its still on my to get lists. Gameplay was nice, and the cockpits looked good.

    psssst... james...

where'd you get that demo to that upcoming modern military air combat sim whose name we can't mention... cause if we do mention, our threads seem to get locked with a reference to the sister forum here...

    i'd really like to know.

    thanks.

    john.

    BTW - the whole
italics/lowercase [i]thing is supposed to be whispering... so the mods don't catch us talkin' 'bout that upcoming modern air combat sim.

Does anyone know of any other replacement water textures available for FS9? The only set I find here is..

    Name: r_water0.zip Size: 9,498,734 Date: 09-04-2003 Downloads: 7804
FS2004 Water Textures And Reflections. Approximately 25% darker than original. New, more realistic water reflections make the water darker and less reflective away from the sun. Combined, these changes makes for a more realistic sea environment in FS2004. By Roger Austli.

I find them to be excelent...but was wondering if there is any alternative.

    Hey James...

Thanks for pointing me to 3dgamers!

My power went out at about 1:45am (just as I was reading your response)... and since I haven't invested in a UPS yet, I just went to sleep. I'll check their site out for that demo.

And, yes, I did see that the other thread was cleaned... didn't think it would take long!

BTW Brian, thanks for your indulgence on this thread about that demo. Keep up the great work with the forums, man!

    Regards,

    John.

well since we are on th subject of water and this is somewhat FS2004 related the new water look in 2k4 is nice and all..but check out this screen shot from an up and coming (I hope..its been delayed so many times) flight combat sim:

www.lo-mac.com/ss/A-10_Attack_new.jpg. just delete the dot and add it to your address bar. I did that so the thread wouldnt get bogged down with a semi big pic lol.

Yep...but go above 5,000 agl and it gets kind of weak. I feel in the overall performance issue of water, FS9 has done the best. And yes I have played that other sim for 4 hours yesterday, so I am familiar with the water in action. It looks like a small jpg that is repeated over and over again. Looks great when you are on the deck. But anything from high altitude and it looks like one solid blue square. I prefer the MS water over lomac.
