Thread: Question to addon designers about default roads...

  1. Default Question to addon designers about default roads...

There are many requests for a "living" FSworld with moving cars. For me,I should already be very happy with the carheadlights by night. My question:is it possible to use the roadtextures out of the old FS2000 addons(for example LAGO's Italy 2000 etc...)to replace the default FS2004-roadtextures.With other words,is there a possibility to have the headlights all over the world ?
With each new FS version I hope MS will at least integrate the night-headlights,but I think I better give up all hope and ask this question to people with the knowledge to give us a nice addon.
I even want to pay for it...

    Thanks,

    Hans

    I don't want to sound like a salesman...but check out FSGenesis.com
The 38.2M terrain mesh (you can get the entire USA) has every interstate faithfully reproduced to the point that you can fly anywhere just using a road atlas. At night you can follow the roads very easily because they are lighted....and it looks (to me) like car headlights.
    Stationary, of course.

    Sounds interesting,but yes,I'm speaking about "moving" headlights...Hans

Sorry Hank, I'm afraid terrain mesh has absolutely nothing to do with roads except alter their elevation. (Although I wish it were that easy to improve them.)

Check out my site if you would like to learn what mesh is all about.

Weren't there moving headlights in FS2000, and a tremendous load on system resources? Read bad FPS.

Nobody could manage to give us the moving headlights?

Hank must have picked up the Landclass file as well :) No, the mesh does not change the scenery, it changes (adds) data to which FS9 uses for reference when drawing topographic features. OR....

Lets break it down the simple way. If where you are standing is a reference point, you would have to walk 175 yards to get to the next reference point with the default mesh. With 76.4 you would half that. And so on. So with 9.6 meter terrain, every 10 yards is a reference point. Or about 17 more points in that line then the default. But we are not talking lines....we are talking squares, cells.....So the easiest way to visualize higher resolution terrain is to take a piece of graph paper. Now think of the four corners of the sheet as the default terrain, and the little squares as 9.6 mesh. If you lay that paper on an object like a...hmmm....an upside down bowl, which one would give you the best representation of the height of the bowl? Because that basically in a nutshell is how FS9 is looking at the earth. I have never heard this analogy before....and its real real late, so if it doesn't make any sense, just slap me around alittle.

Or Visit my website to see screenshots of Mesh and Landclass and what they do....

There is no reason it can't be done. The question is why you would want to. It would bring the frame rates down. It would be like hundreds or even thousands of AI aircraft moving on the ground.

  9. Default RE: Question to addon designers about default roads...

I understand, but my real question is:can we have the little lights as in the FS2000-addons,as an effect, not as AI-cars,on all the roads in FS2004.In the FS2000-addons I didn't feel much framerateproblems with those lights...So,only a few moving lights on the road by night(the default roads),should it be possible, and does someone want to try it out?

  10. Default RE: Question to addon designers about default roads...

I continue to bump, because I cannot believe there is no solution to give us some "moving" headlights in a simple way,as effect or something, and only during nightflying, without offering too much framerates, and this with a replacement of the default roads of FS2004.

I will pay the one who makes it...I know there are always people saying that it's a "flight"sim.I agree, but I want at least "one" solution to give us a "suggestion" of life beneath us.Only then I will begin to feel that it's dangerous to fly ,that people could die when I must make an emergency landing on a highway...

Once again:I don't ask for AI-cars,neither for cars during daylight.Only some moving little lights whatever that give us the SUGGESTION of life...

Where is the GERRISH GRAY of the roads??????
