Default Is this a "bad RAM" problem?

I just bought an extra 256mb chip in order to increase my performance in FS9. I used to have only 256mb (2 chips of 128 each). The new ram is recognized by the system, but ever since it's been installed. FS will crash all the time and freeze the whole system leaving me no choice but to reboot (even ctrl-alt-del won't work).

Is this because of the new ram I installed. I never had any problem before...

BTW, I know I bought the right type of memory and it is supposed to be compatible with my sytem.

    Specs:

    AMD 1400+
    256mb RAM (hopefully 512 ??)
    ATI Radeon 7500
(edit: forgot to mention WinXP pro)
    Thanks!

Go here http://www.memtest86.com and download memtest86. Run the program and it will create a boot disk. Boot up with the disk and it will test your memory. Just leave the one stick in your motherboard for it to test. Remove any other ones.

The quickest way to find out is to take out the (2) 128MB RAM sticks and leave the 256MB stick in the system and see if it crashes. I would however, put the 256MB RAM stick into the first bank even if you end up using all (3).

Did you buy an 'off brand' 256 meg module. If so that is not a good choice, because ram varies in quality a lot and if you get a bad brand than that will cause problems.

Try the other things mentioned too.
