    Default Quiz- All Wet...

What was the world's fastest flying boat? What land-based aircraft did it resemble? What manufacturer(s) built these aircraft?

Hint-- it's faster than you may think. Remember, a flying boat means that the hull of the aircraft actually sits in the water, unlike a float plane.

Sorry Jeff- there is one yet faster (maybe two), though that was a good try.

Maybe the Martin P6M-2 Seamaster? Nearly a Mach 1 aircraft if I remember...

How about the Convair Sea Dart? That did reach Mach 1:

Kinda resembles what our current president flew in the Texas ANG, the F-102.

    Mach .92 in testing.
8 production models were actually ordered for the Atlantic fleet, of which 6 were delivered.
They never entered service though and the aircraft were later scrapped at Pax River.

The Sea Dart is it. It actually went past mach 1 in a shallow dive. The Martin Seamaster was next with a speed a bit over 600 mph (0.9 mach). The Saunders-Roe SR-A1 was a bit over 500 mph.

And you got one of the two aircraft it resembled, Ned, the Convair F-102.

Ok so now I've got to figure out what the Seamaster resembles. Hmmm... I'm thinking British... I'm thinking British maritime patrol here.

Oops I just reread your reply. So the Sea Dart resembles another aircraft. Hmmm... If I just look at the nose and block the rest of it off, it sure looks a heck of a lot like the X-15:
