    Default *Dynamic weather?? *

Just a quick qestion regarding the 'dynamic' weather.

My respect for the new weather system is quickly fading to nothing. Is it possible to set conditions where clouds actually build into thunderstorms and bring rain and low visibility WITHOUT using the preset weather themes?

If anyone can do this I would love to know ... please don't take this post out of context, I know in FS2004 you can create almost any weather scenario BUT what I mean is to put the 'dynamic' element to work and for the weather itself to create rain, low visibility and thunderstorms.

Really the only dynamic element in FS2004 is the ability to download weather every 15 mins and clouds that do build but bring no weather whatsoever.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated as I keep trying to 'tinker' with the weather but really there isn't much you can do!

    Regards,
    Steve

Well this gets very involved but i think we all need to understand that the weather will come to you but its all a matter of timing.
If you goto apt that has metar station and download real weather, whatever that station is reporting is what you will see. Now 15mins later the station is reporting same conditions,so nothing changes,i found with that setting rate of change to max,i got all kinds of strange clouds that didnt match what was going on during that time.
The best way to see this is look at local radar for a approaching thunderstorm, sit on rwy and see when fs updates weather.
The other thing you can do is look at weather radar and fly into area that has heavy rain,so far every time i see ifr conditions.
As far as fs seeing a quick passing thunderstorm,i dont see it,just no way to get that info into fs,its not avaible.
Like i said in another post,on hurricane's,when they can write code for satellite and radar images and make them move in real time we will have "real weather"
But what we got sure beats what we use to have

Find a place where the weather "sucks", & go there.

Did it in the Caribbean once & was quite surprised, by the real weather download!

    As to setting scenario's up......?????

The only way i know to set up a scenario is to use Active Sky and then its a offline mode. You can make a def file with your own metars and then fly that.........will tell you this its not a 5 min job to do but to make a weather file that would make weather go to ##### at apt to do a ifr landing it does work. I did it some time ago but flying the same weather got old for me. I need to look into the themes and see just how much i can do with them but so far not real high on my list of things to try
    Hope that helps

I do appreciate all your suggestions but the word 'dynamic' in FS2004 should suggest a weather system that changes, evolves and dissipates in conjunction with frontal system that bring rain, changing visibilities and variable wind etc ..

Any of you guys tried Flight Unlimited 3.. ?

I don't think you've quite explored the weather possibilities deeply enough. Fair enough the 15 minute updates in RW won't do you a lot of good - most stations only update every hour anyway. But what happens if you d/l Real Weather and then set the dynamic change to high? It changes really quick.

Try experimenting some more. You'll get the hang of it eventually. And if you dont others will - I see that Weather Scapes are part of the new Weather Maker software.

I loved FUIII. I still fly it sometimes. The adventures were great. FS still hasn't quite caught up with some of the features offered there though they're getting closer now. Pilot Controlled Lighting at uncontrolled and decent damage modeling are a couple things they have yet to manage.

    >FS9 thinks there
    >should be clouds, so it makes clouds. And the Rate of
    >change slider affects how fast it does this.

Do these dynamic clouds reach thunderstorm proportions?

A couple of weeks ago, at KDEN, there were dramatic thunderstorms. Clouds surround the airfield, had lighting flashing all around me, and loud sounds. I have a harman/kardon surround sound set of speakers on my computer. First crack of thunder was so loud, I was startled.

Today, I flew from Ft Stewart GA, to Burmuda Intl. The Hurricane Isabel was just north of the flight path. I diverted to fly through it, and flew down into the EYE... Others complained they could not find it, that it was not realistic, etc. One thing most mentioned, there was -no- eye. BUT, many had just flown from the shoreline to the closest storm, 100 miles off the coast. There are all kinds of storms -surrounding- the Hurricane. The Hurricane itself, was still 275 miles from shore, at 9pm EST they were not going out far enough. If you notice in the Weather Channel, there are storms all around the Main Storm.... The coordinates are posted on the weather map of the center -but- they are only updated about once an hour. So if you dont find the center where they say it is, look around. One thing which helped me find it, were the trails of clouds decending to the water, below the main storm. There were also two much darker areas either side of them, so I guessed this was the center.

Be aware that due to another weather system coming from the west, it has distorted the center, and it is more enlongated than round. When I went through it, it was about 30 miles long... the EYE is not a small thing. Sometimes it can take -more- than an hour, before it passes over a given point.

In addition, I had -all- weather sliders maxed out, including the 3D one... Once I got into the storm, the clouds were from about 25k to 4k feet... Then I headed for Burmuda, and flew though clouds from the eye, to 20000 before getting above them. Decending to the Burmuda, was in the clouds down to 3200ft.
