Just be sure to get a good brand like Enermax or Antech...350 watts should be fine.

Make sure it's Pentium 4 Ready. Most are these days, but better to be safe than sorry. The P4 requires two power connections to the mobo to supply all the power it needs. Those two headers should be two of the plugs leading out of the PSU. There should be the standard 20-pin ATX lead to the mobo and another, smaller, 4-pin one that goes into the mobo near the processor.

An Enermax 350W would be great. The Wattage doesn't matter quite as much as the rail ratings. The 12V rail on the 350W Enermax is one of the best available (25A rated) and the 3.3V and 5V rails are 32A each. It's also very stable and reliable. You'd only need more power if you were planning on more than two hard drives, lots of optical drives, dual processors, and/or filling all of your PCI slots with addon cards.

Check out this link to Intel's web page on power supplies for P4 3.0
I just finished building a system with the P4 3.0 800/FSB and I'm powering it with a Antec 430Watt ATX power supply that came with the 1080 case.

better too much, than too little.

Besides which, the power supply was incorporated in the server case that I used to house the system in.

    For what it is worth:

Just upgraded to a MB/CPU/Mem bundle Asus P4C800 Deluxe/P4-3.2/1G with a new case including an undefined 430 Watt p4 PS.

    Lockup/Lockup/Lockup.

Replaced the PS with my old 315 Watt unit out of my old case.

    All problems went away (Tripple monitors 2 @ 21" + 1@ 17")

Then ordered a replacement emax 430 Watt PS. Found that the CPU jack had to be very severly plugged in to get system operation..

Conclusion: Some apprehension might have been avoided by sticking with my 315 watt proven PS, however, new PS working ok for the last 72 hours or so. With a good unit, 300+ seems to be adequate. A questionable unit at any wattage rating is suspect.

    XP Pro, 3.2CPU. Asus P4C800 Dlx MB, 1Gmem. Ti4600.

    Good luck:
