Thread: I'm gonna post this.....

  1. Default I'm gonna post this.....

I hope the moderators are reading the happenings for the past while....and seeing the difference between those that are trying to help out in any way possible, and those that THINK they are ALL KNOWING or #####-like, sarcastically critizing ideas that THEY don't believe to be true. Post your ideas that you think work, don't craap on ideas that are different, and leave it at that!

why? I enjoy reading the different posts. Adds a bit of life to the forum. Otherwise we'd all be as dull as dishwater, and if that's what you want perhaps there's an opening at the Trainspotter's Club for you... :-)

Yes..you are quite right...however, I think captain slarty has been getting a bit sanctimoniously (righteously?) repetitious lately.
This, in my opinion (and perhaps also only from my view), has been detrimental to his image. With his new "tweak adversary" mission in life, the only reason I open his posts now is just to see what Mr. wonderful has to say about the latest effort to improve fs9, while before, I read him to see what I could learn.
Oh well, like him, I also get bored, so I have to do something with my time, hence this post :-sleepy

The purpose of this forum is supposed to be to HELP simmers. I see precious little HELP in advisng simmers to waste precious time and effort in pursuing ridiculous unnecessary and possibly system-harmful `tweaks`. I see plenty of sanctimonious posting from those that want to waste others time either by repetitiously asking the same questions again and again or by offering `advice` that is untried, untested and unnervingly facile and simplistic in its viewpoint.
In my opinion Slarty is the breath of fresh air to all this pathetic magic button wishful thinking and prattling on about rubbish modifications.
While you may take issue with the Cap'n methods, I simply cannot for the life of me see that ANY of his suggestions could do harm to a simmers system. Can the same be said for all these other meddlers? If the answer is yes, then the forum should continue as it is. If the answer is `no` and no right-minded person could think anything different, then I think the forum does need to change - by showing less tolerance to these `helpful` simmers who waste everyones time by posting such trash.
There are some good ideas in among the rubbish, but who can tell the difference anymore?

I am with YOU Chas. If these gripers/negatives would spend more time flying, and taking Capt Slarty's advice-none better-they would profit and thrive. As it is now, any birdbrain idea gets thrown out with little or no basis in either fact, or from experience. Everybody just wants to be a star!

    *sigh...*

You know, you are not much better yourself in some respects. Here you are again, wasting my (and presumably also some other's) time by repetitiously rant the same old song again. If you don't like it, than keep out! It's that simple. While I agree with the Capt'n, I'm not moaning about it every time.

If people feel it's improving their sim, let them share it. Even if it's between the ears, if people adopt it as working for them, let them. That they may (or may not) be misleading themselves, they don't know and they probably don't want to know either.

    >think the forum does need to change - by showing less
    >tolerance to these `helpful` simmers who waste everyones
    >time by posting such trash.

They waste as much of your time as you let them! The time you spend typing this same old rant again, you could have used to do something useful, you know. You are really getting on my nerves...

edit- this thread is really getting close to being introduced to the padlock. Unless some good arguments are put forth, I'll lock this one up.

.....mmmm you all seemed to slightly miss the whole premise of my original post.

Saw what you want towards helping someone enjoy flightsim, BUT don't belittle those ideas you don't agree with. Non tweakers may be right, tweakers may be right....let's offer our ideas and leave it at that!

ok - I am NOT trying to insult ANY of the posters involved BUT -

if someone posts a tweak that
    1) could potentially damage a system or
    2) just will not work as advertised

    and you know that -

I agree that you can't just say - Hey, bozo - you're an idiot - it won't work but if someone says:

that's absolute garbage - the tweak will not work!

    What's wrong with that?

There was a tweak posted a while back, that many people tried and most reported 'fabulous' results. There were naysayers who touted that it couldn't work but the frame rate junkies totally disagreed. A bit later it was noted ( by some ) that when you applied the tweak, it had the effect of turning down several key sliders to the default, which would give you - increased framerates at the expense of quality. However, the majority of the posters were unaware of this and the myth continues.

Apart from personal attacks, IMHO, if I think a tweak is trash, I should be allowed to say so, especially if I can back it up with some sort of documentation.

But don't mind me, I'm one of those old fogeys who wishes the Internet would go back to Gopher and text only and let all these johnny come lately's disappear. :)

There are VERY FEW recommended tweaks that have proven to be "harmful". Some of the overclocking ideas certainly but not much else.

<<While you may take issue with the Cap'n methods,>>
What methods? I haven't reviewed his entire post history...and shall not...but most of his stuff since I've been around here aren't "methods" at all...just leave things alone and all will be fine. Well, if all was fine, there would be no forum.

When people try things that work, he just says that they don't and accuses the adopters as being ignorant. But I don't know what his performance benchmarks are and without that information NO ONE, including YOU can or should have an opinion (well, you can have an opinion but it wouldn't be worth anything) about whether his advice is good, bad or indifferent.

That Captain needs to take his own advice. PROOF.

<<by showing less tolerance to these `helpful` simmers who waste everyones time by posting such trash.>>

One thing is beyond debate. You sir, are not the authority on whether other posters remarks are helpful or not or trash or not.

And don't worry about whether I waste MY time because that is none of your business. If you don't want to waste YOURS, fine. Just don't read posts that appear to be suggestions. But OOOOPS...that's a suggestion in and of itself and therefore, by definition, unwelcome as far as you are concerned....Sorry.
