Thread: Route of the Vin Fiz

Default Route of the Vin Fiz

Like many others I'm sure, I've decided to take up some of the historical flights. So, I've started the Flight of the Vin Fiz. However, I can't find a listing of the stops the Vin Fiz made. There were supposedly 75 (or so) stops but I can't find a listing anywhere. The closest I came was this GIF map.
Does anybody know the exact route?

Core 2 Quad Q6600, 9800GTX+, 4GB, Win7 HP 64-bit, TH2GO, 8 GoFlight, CH [Eclipse Yoke, Throttle (Pro and Quad), Combat stick, Pro Pedals], Saitek [Yoke, pedals, X52], TrackIR 3

Try this link to the Aerofiles Vin Fizz site: [link:www.aerofiles.com/vinfiz.html|Aerofiles]
It has a map of the route with the names on it but it may not be readable. There is a nice PDF file located at [link:www.ece.cmu.edu/~koopman/airplanes/vinfiz/|Vin Fizz] .
This PDF has some nice drawings and photos. I'm going to use it along with some pictures that I took of Dana Smith's replica for my FS2004 version.

    Hello:

I'm fairly new to this forum and I noticed you comment above. Are you planning on build, modeling the Vin Fiz?

Is there any chance of buying a copy of this model when you've completed it?

Or am I misunderstanding your comment?

    Thanks for your time,
    Francis Marion

    Sorry,
I don't sell my models, I give them away for free. When complete, the Vin Fizz will hopefully be posted at Flightsim.com and The Golden Eagles Squadron among others. It'll be similar to the 1910 Model "R" Roadster that I'm slowly completing...

    Swampfox,
Are you located near KFLO? about 35 miles north of KSMS....

Paul, will you be correcting the gear on your model to reflect the one in the photograph? The wingspans appear to be different too, with the original Vin Fiz looking a bit larger. I'll be looking forward to your model in the file library...it should be a handful to fly.

I'd propose that those that recreate the flight in the model of the original Vin Fiz keep track of how many times they damage the plane. I believe there was not much original of the plane that took off from NY when it arrived in Los Angeles, it had crashed numerous times. They certainly looked tough to fly. I know I've flown the Wright Flyer in FS9 already and it's a bunch to keep airborn too long.

Again, looking forward to seeing and flying your model of the Vin Fiz. Keep us posted on the progress.

The FS2002 model that I posted a picture of is a Model "R" Roadster with a span of about 20 ft. The Vin Fizz was an "EX" model with a span of about 31.5 ft. Both planes have a similar layout with the "R" being a much smaller racing plane. I'll replace the Wright V-8 in the roadster with the Wright Vertical 4 that I've used in the 1909 model "A" and throw on a larger set of wings ......

Great. I didn't understand the difference in the models, I was a toddler when the Model "R" came out!

But I'm definitely looking forward to adding it to my barnstorming stable of antique planes. It's going to be a fun one.

    Paul:

I can't complain about the price that's for sure!! WOW, thanks.

From your comments to other's it appears that you are making or have made other aircraft based on the Wright designs? Are these models alos available for use in FS2004? Might you tell me were, what & how to get copies?

I am new to the Flight Sim world and I am amazed as to how generous you people are with your work.

As far as I can tell, KFLO and KSMS are in South Carolina? My closest airport is BJC, so I'm not even on the same side of "The River"!!

    Good day,
    Francis Marion

I still haven't found a list of stops. Somebody mentioned a book written by a guy who recreated the flight recently. Does anybody have a copy? Does it list the route?
