Thread: This is cool; I'm backing my airplanes up!

With the reverse thrusters. Didn't know we could do that. Just check to make sure the reverse thrust is set in the aircraft cfg:

    reverser_available to =1

    and find the line:

min_throttle_limit and change the setting to =-1.5.

It backs up the learjet. Haven't tried it on a heavy yet. Might take -2.0 or something similar on a 727?.

With the 747 it does it by default for me. Although I don't use that to go backwards, I use the pushback feature(shift+p).

The lear was set at -0.25 and it wouldn't back up. It does now at -1.5. Was this this way in FS2k2 cause I know the subject was discussed more than once in the threads and the answer was always to change the values in the airfile.

I believe one of the few jets in real life that can backup is the 737.

This is not uncommon for MS Flight Sim. Most people were doing it this way before they discovered the "pushback" feature.

I could be wrong here, but I believe while all planes are capable of backing up via the reverse thrust, many airlines ( or airports ) prohibit it for noise reasons. Also, planes with wing mounted engines carry a greater chance of ingesting FOD than a plane with tail mounted engines ( such as a DC-9 ) so that may be another reason for real aircraft not backing up with their reverse thrust.

Again, I may not be 100 % accurate here, but from what I understand.....

    Regards,

    Bob

    Actually...

The C-17 can do it, very well, saw it on the Discovery Channel.

Also, the 727, DC-9, and MD-80 series all do it, and do it frequently.

As far as other jets. I believe most jets with thrust reversers can back up under thier own power, however, doing it with wing mounted engines is dangerous to the engines, the amount of FOD that would be kicked up could severley damage the engine.

Blew me away the first time I was on a DC9 and it did a powered
backup from the gate. As I recall it was a Texas International
DC9..I was also on a Continental 727 that did the same.
