Thread: Anyone here using an FX series video card from eVGA ?

  1. Default Anyone here using an FX series video card from eVGA ?

Does anyone have any problems with eVGA FX series video cards?
If so would you please tell what problems (if any) you had and what your
average FPS is?I'm thinking of upgrading my video card from a Matrox
    G-400 Marvel to an eVGA e-GeForce FX 5900 128MB.
Right now I get only around 10 fps in FS2004 with settings at low.

    System Specs

    Win 98se
    Athlon XP 2400 133FSB
    Matrox G-400 Marvel 16mb

I just replaced my eVGA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with an eVGA GeForce FX 5600 256MB DDR after the GeForce4 crapped out after a month. It is an absolutely great card for me. It blows the 4200 out of the water in FS9 with all of the effects cranked up....right out of the box. With a Athlon XP 2200+ and 768MB of SDRAM, I'm getting 20-30 FPS depending on the airplane and scenery, but it never gets choppy. I have a mix on the sliders with most things towards the middle to high end. It should rape FS9 compared to your current card.

As for eVGA, I'd buy a different brand if you can, after the first card failed it was an incredible struggle to get them to replace the card in a timely fashion and not out of my pocket...that's right, they manufactured a defective card and wanted me to pay them $15 to replace it on top of shipping both ways, and wait 3-4 weeks. I was told by a mid level supervisor that my product was not high end enough for them to provide full blown customer service. His boss sang a different tune and was very helpful however. At any rate, I urge you to go with a different manufacturer for the nVidia cards, I certainly will not deal with a company that values its customers that little. But anyway...

I recommend Asus or PNY..!! Look at Tom's hardware vid card review for different vendors.

I wouldn't worry too much about the eVGA.. these are boards based on the reference design from Nvidia. In fact they might even be built by Nvidia themselves. There's really not a lot of difference between manufacturers using the reference designs. Another sticker on your fan, that's about it.

Yes, there is a slight difference. Depending on the vendor, the card could have faster ram and tweaked drivers. This does make a difference when it comes to performance, Tom's Hardware covers all of these items and gives you a summary of the findings.
