Thread: Gray Buildings

  1. Default Gray Buildings

I must be the only one having this problem since I've posted before with no replies so I'll try one more time. The only issue I have is that as tall buildings scroll into view, they appears as plain gray boxes in spite of the fact that the low ground textures...houses etc. look fine. At night, the buildings are not lit...and on the runway, the rotating beacon is solid gray like a chopper blade but all other lights are normal.

The only way around this is to contantly toggle the alt key...then poof...there are the correct buildings.

It's hared to believe it's my system (see below) and in fs2k2 I don't have the problem at all...when new buildings scroll into view they are gray for maybe a second and then snap to perfect textures.

I've had this problem with 2 different graphics cards and 3 sets of drivers. It does not seem to be frame rate oriented since I get18-20 locked at 20 almost everywhere except major cities but get 14-16 at and around O'Hare which is pretty decent from what I read.

Current settings are mid-high in most cases although using default settings was no help. I have AA set to application on the card with AF off on the card. I've spent hours trying out tons of different setting combinations but no joy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, since nobody will jump in, I'll try.

I have had the same problems, but they were only momentary.

    Try this:

Set TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT= in the FS9.cfg to 80 or 100 and try that.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!! That was the fix...almost anyway. Now just a couple of buildings are gray in all of downtown Chicago. I can live with that. During the day, I'll assume they are under construction and at night,I will decree that they've had a power failure.

We are the Masters of the Universe when we're simming right?? (:

BTW, 80 didn't help but 100 was the fix. Can I go higher? Will I fry anything?
    Thanks again

I set mine to 400.... worked for me. Worst case, you go back and change it back to 100 if it doesn't work.

How do you get into that area of the config files?
    Thanks
