I just wanted to depart from KJFK, when I noticed the following: I was at 4L, and requested Take-Off clearance, and ATC gave me the clearance for 22R, but didn't tell me to taxi there first. Why's that?

Probably just a glitch!!! Nothing to worry about unless it keeps happening.

Was the prevailing wind favoring a 22 departure? Was it from anywhere between about 130 and 310 degrees?
It was most likely a change in wind direction since it is the same runway, just different ends.
I think fs9 knew you were on the correct runway surface, but can not tell where on the runway you are.
Just tested that idea, and what I found is that once you hit a hold short point anywhere along that runway, you can request clearance for takeoff. Good news!! Because now I do not have to take my 172 all the way down to the end on a 12,000 ft runway. I am not a real pilot, so I do not know the answer to this....Maybe someone else can help here, but is it 'legal' for a small plane to not utilize the entire length of the runway? Or do you have to taxi to the end of the runway, even though it is clearly not needed. I know if an emergencty happened on takeoff roll then that runway you didn't use would become valuable real estate...but regalation wise...what is the deal??

You can request a takeoff from an intersection anywhere on therunway. It is up to you to ask for it and to determine if your aircraft is capable.
One thought about the above, could you have expected one runway got assigned another and then taxied to what you expected, not what you were given. Happens a lot in real life
It has been said that there are three useless things in aviation:
Runway behind you.
Altitude above you.
Fuel back at your base.
True, but when you have 10,000ft of runway and your off by the end displaced threshold it is kind of a waste.
This topic is thrown around all the time. There is no wrong or right answer if it is within your personal miniums. A bigger sin in my opinion is to fly a B-52 sized pattern with a three mile final in a light plane.
