    Default ATC CONTROL

:-hmmm On a fligt I had ATC advise me to decend to 2000 ft. but I was I had mountains all around me nad could not desend that low. The only way around this was to cancel my IFR flight. However then I could not get clearance to land at the airport. Any Ideas?

When I have had this happen to me I try one of two things. The first is to decend at a rate where ATC won't bother me, but it is the lowest VVI I can manage without hittin' the mountains. If that still doesn't work, I offset my heading while descending as slow as possible just enough to miss the peaks, and not enough to catch the attention of ATC. The one grace you have with Flight Sim, as I am sure you know, is you get three strikes before you loose your clearance. If you can deviate and get back on course before you hit your third strike, you will be okay until you get to the next ATC agency, and then the strike count resets.

If all else fails, I do what you say you tried. Cancel my IFR, and pick up Flight Following or something.

I hope my suggestions put some good ideas in your head. Good luck! :-wave

Yeah, but.... what happens if you're in IMC and you can't see the mountains? I thought FS9 ATC was supposed to take terrain elevation into account?

Try to fly IFR to INSBRUCK( Austria) where the ILS starts about 21NMs from the threshold and the Glide slop capture is at 9500fts with Alps mountains both on the LH & RH and the radar gives you impossible radar vectors where to land it's only a strait manner Loc 255°.

Just fly using real ATC: Join VATSIM (http://www.vatsim.net) and these stupid "game"-problems are gone...
