    Default A Flight Simmers DREAM !!!

    I am awestruck by FS 2004 ! It runs flawless on my Athlon XP 2400,
    Sapphire/ATI 9700 Non-Pro(128) video, 512 SDRAM system, WIN XP Home Edition. FPS set at 20, the sim runs at 19 FPS steady and smooth through just about all conditions. Weather is just breathtaking, the GPS navigation system lots of fun, the AI aircraft and ATC amazingly improved and the whole sim is a major improvement (in my humble opinion as a FS user for the past ten years). It is a mystery to me how many problems I read on these forums about folks with much better systems than mine running FS 2004. Mine installed like silk and as I said runs great. For my money, I think Microsoft deserves our congratulations for producing what I consider a Flight Simulator that will provide me hundreds of hours of fun and learning during our Wisconsin winter(along with the Packers).

    I was with ya the whole way (except it does run a little slow on my system) until you mentioned the Pakers(?!) Vikings rule!

    You do know of course that when you lock the FPS at 20 or whatever, FS will reduce the scenery level to keep it there......

    I locked mine at 20....flew around for about 10 seconds before FS turned off Water effects.....

    I'm not saying that that is what is happening for you, I'm just saying that FS will pretty much do whatever it needs to do to keep your FPS at 20.

    It's like a terminator...........It absolutely will not stop...until you have 20 FPS !!!

    The LOD changes that you mention are caused by few lines in the FS9.cfg file.

    AUTO_LOD=0 (I suspect this must be a =1 to turn it on)
    LOD_TARGET_FPS=16

    If your frames drop below 16, it will alter the LOD to get above 16. When you hit 20 FPS with limit set to 20, all that happens is FS stops using CPU/graphics power to produce framerate.

    Your system should be setup to handle 28-32FPS average on unlimited, even in the 'worst' conditions. Then go back and set the framerate limit to 24-25FPS and you will have a consistant smooth graphical display. Unless you drop below 16 for any reason, then the LOD will drop.

    What's all this flight sim talk? I thought this was a Viking forum. LOL. Question to ye all. I have a HP Pavilion, 512 RAM, 120GB HD, MX440 card, running on XP, yet I'm pulling like 7 to 11 FPS. Is this right? Of course I have all the sliders maxed out and I'm running at 1240 x 1070 x 32. (I think that's right.) Is this just a case of me liking the eye candy to much? FS04 looks sooooo good it kills me to roll the sliders back. Serously, has anyone maxed everything out and flown over a major city like New York dipping in and out of cloads? Awsome! I'm thinking I'm better off buying another 512mb Ram then getting a new card. So tell me, am I pushing my system beyound what it can do, or is it a simple case of just needing to bump up the Ram? And yes, no question, Vikes rule!
