    Default extremely low framerates???

Hello I've bought fs2004 about two days ago, and dispite it looks good I'm not very happy with it.

My framerates are extremely low, now I don't have high end computer so frames of 100 are not for me. How ever fs2002 went perfect, I had frames of about 15-20 and the sim was always smooth. So i figured fs2004 can't be that much heavier on my computer, but I'm wrong (or so it looks)

    My config.: AMD Athlon 1600+ 384MBRAM and a 32 MB videocard. (i'ts a laptop)

Can anybody help me with this?? I have the latest drivers for the videocard, I've tried every setting within flightsimulator still I ##### a schocky 5-6 frames a second:(

That can't be right, anybody how had the same problem, any solutions or tips, please.

    Thanks in advance...

Start small and work your way up. Start with the settings @ minimums, and start moving them up until you find the right mix. You'll probably have to have your AI traffic set low for sure.

What type video card is in your laptop...is it a Radeon or nVidea chip. If so, you may want to go to http://www.omegacorner.com/ and get one of their Radeon or nvidea drivers...I did the same , and now my laptop plays FS2004 great. I have a P4 2.4, which in comparision to an Athlon 1600, is not too much faster. I also have 512MB RAM and a 32 MB video card. Also if yours is sharred memory, than upgrading to 512 RAM will make a noticeable difference.

    Good Luck

My specs are only slightly above yours and I'm getting 15-20fps.

    Try:

    3D clouds @ 20%
    AI Traffic @ 35%
Autogen @ Sparse (it doesn't look that sparse)

All my other sliders are about halfway with most options turned on.

    Hello

I have a Celeron 633, integrated video and 320 MB Ram..my framerates are, in airports 7-8, on the air stay at 10 where are locked...i close all programs running in back with EnditAll, then i free RAM memory with Freemem..both programs freeware on the net...my settings, all sliders to the left, except scenery in normal, mip mapping quality in 4, lights in 4...also, i set my own weather, 20 miles of visibility up to 99999 feet..it gives good visuals, the sunsets and stuff and put a nice haze on the horizon giving better framerates...the GPS is a cause for stuttering in my machine so i'm using real charts waiting for my new system, do a flight without even opening the GPS and look how it feels...the sound, be sure that in DirectX the settings are in basic aceleration...hope this helps, i'm able to fly and enjoy many new features, and testing the compatibility of planes, panels...but, definetly this sim is worth an upgrade which i'm doing right now

    Regards

You have the right idea, Chris.

Remember, at any given scenery density / options setting, when comparing FS2004 to FS2002, FS2004 will probably be about 25%+ more demanding.

If you want to maintain your frame rates in FS2004, and without upgrading your hardware, you will need to reduce your scenery density / options.

Disable anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering in your video card's display drivers. Also, make sure you're running in 16-bit colour (Settings | Display | Hardware window within FS2004).

    Default Auto Gen A killer

I found the only two affecting my system performace seems to be the 3D cloud draw distance and more than that auto gen scenery. When not over a city I can max out all sliders and stay around 25 FPS, but when around a major city or lots of auto gen I drop to 4-5 FPS. For every slide left (lesser) on the the auto gen bar, I seem to gain an extra 4-5. For my system the auto gen is the one setting that affect the perfomance.

    P4 2.26
    1 GHZ ram
ATI 9700 PRO (Yes I have the flickering issue too) Catalyst 3.6 drivers
    Windows XP Prof
