Default Active Camera - Active Cost??

Like alot of us I have not been able to live without Active Camera in FS2002. It dramatically changes the way you use the sim and my crash helmet is off to Serge BAYE and Guillaume DARIER for a tremendous program! But... (And there's always a B-U-T-T)

I am a bit disapointed that they decided to go Shareware or better refered to as 'Pay or no Playware', as several others have chosen to do with the release of FS9. I understand what is involved with coding great programs, I do some code'in in my spare time but at the same time it dosen't sit right at least with me to start charging for programs that have always been FREEWARE as soon as we get a new release of FS. If an intention was to make a profit from one's work then it should have been that way from it's inception. IMHO, it resembles a Get-Rick-Quick-scheme, like "Hello my name is Dave Rhodes and if you just send $5 to the five people on the list below you can make $50,000 in the next 30 days"! Again IMHO, I would think that a 'Donation' procedure would have been more tactful and in the past I have have not thought twice about making my donation to those who make our hobby so much more enjoyable. I hope at least that the major bugs have been worked out of it for FS9 if it is now PayWare? This is not a flame post nor am I just picking on the makers of Active Camera but I felt as a citizen of the Great USofA a right we all enjoy in a free country is to let our opinions be known.

    Just my 2 cents...

You paid for your copy of FS2004, yes? You paid for your joystick or yoke, yes? You paid for your computer on which you run FS9, yes?

Did you write all these suppliers complaining too? I bet no.

There is a nasty underlying trend going round this community right now that because something was once free, there's something underhand going on when the time comes to pay. Well, the increasing complexity of simulation products is such that you'd better get used to it. Freeware means 50 hours of creation, and the result is average. Payware means 500/5,000 hours of creation - and detailed technical support if it's carp. Serge and the the team have delivered everything they promised and more and are OWED by this community far more than could ever be paid simply by a few bucks. Instead of being despicably condemnatory beacuse they charge, should you not be unremittingly thankful that at first they didn't?

Wise up people and stop whinging. No-one is forcing you to buy anything.

    "OWED"

You have got to be kidding me! No one is owed anything for doing free work. Not anyone at charity causes, nor church work or any other event or project THEY choose to work at. It is a very sorry time for flight simulator fans when some of us start saying others are owed for doing work they did freely and of their own choosing.

    Very sad indeed.

And immediately you assume by `owed` I meant monetary value..? Does that make me the fool - or you just one more part of the problem?

Active Camera changed the way I viewed virtual cockpits. Before, they were a gimmick of no apparent use. After, thanks to head latency they became then most valued part of the flightsim experience. In comes FS2004 with clickable VC's and all you need to do is add HL and you have a whole new ball game. Add the walkround function and the flyby effects and you can hardly argue that the utility gives us something we didn't have before.

And you think we DON'T `owe` Serge and the team our thanks because they previously gave it for free? You ungrateful piece of simfodder.

`Xactly Cap'n. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Can't/won't buy it? Then make it yourself and GIVE it to the community.

Practice what you preach, or lay off the sermonising on a Sunday, eh?:-groggy

    Folks,

This belongs at the OM forum, not here.

Please continue the discussion there. Thanks. :-)
