Thread: BOEING 777 QUESTION?

  1. Default BOEING 777 QUESTION?

hey, does anybody fly the triple 7 on a regular basis? i was flying from salt lake city utah to denver and i had to stop fs2004 midflight becuase of some wierd happenings. first off, taking off, it took more than the runway to take off, for some reason, i have no idea. i was at 145 knots at the end of the runway trying to rotate. secondly, during the climb at about FL 260 my airspeed starts to drop, and i can't keep it up to say 280 IAS no matter what i do. is this a flaw in 2004, because it did it in 2002 as well? does this have anything to do with trim? i thought my trim was perfect! i don't fly to 777 much, but would like info as to why i lose airspeed during the climb.

    thanks.

Ok first thing. Make sure you have enough positive trim to help the airplane lift off. Without trim it will never get off the runway with out running off the end.

Second, make sure you switch over to Mach when you get that high. Click the Mach button instead of the SPD button when. Usually when I fly the triple 7 I climb at 2,000 feet per minute, have the plane hold 310 kts. When the speed starts to slip I click the Mach on the autopilot then set it to .80. Once cruising I then set it to .85. Good luck.

As you go higher, the air gets less dense. Ergo, there is less air for the engines to push, and they produce less thrust. Therefore, if you want to maintain speed during climb, you must gradually reduce your rate of climb as you go up. This is done by reducing the body angle, also known as lowering the nose ;-).

As far as takeoff goes, how long was your runway? It takes quite a distance to get a triple-7 up to rotation speed, which, as you indicated, is 140 knots or more. With a full load of fuel, it's probably more like 155. Be sure your runway is long enough.

don't know how long it was, but it was runway 16R or L at salt lake city intl. it was a good long runway. i also noticed that when i reached my cruising altitude of 30,000 ft, my plane was maintaining that altitude, but my nose was way up, i'm talking like way up, yet i was not climbing. maybe it was a bug in particular to this time i flew. but i noticed that it would happen in fs2002 as well. oh, and matt, you say to decrease rate of climb the higher i am, well i was at 1700 vis or climbing 1700 feet per minute or whatever it is. that's pretty low.

Did you climb right up to 30000 or did you step climb? In real life, you are supposed first climb to a transition altitude, such as 25000 or 27000 to burn off fuel before attempting to climb higher. You can not climb straight to cruise with most airliners, the airplane is simply too heavy. You have to burn off fuel first. FS ATC doesn't do a real good job of simulating this.

I had that same problem in FS2002 using project opensky 767's. I have the plane at full throttle above 25000 and could get no higher than the 200's then when I get to cruising altitude at 30000, the plane still loses speed and eventually stalls. I don't know why it happens to me only when I fly project opensky 767's.
