Thread: Anyone with a 3Ghz Pentium ?

    Default Anyone with a 3Ghz Pentium ?

    I was wondering if somebody tried FS2004 with a P4 3.0Ghz PC and a Geforce 4 Ti4600 card.

I want to upgrade and I was wondering if you can run the sim with everything maxed out and get good frame rates , or maybe I should wait with the upgrade until a 4Ghz comes out :-)

    Hey Itai

I have a P4 2.8 overclocked at 3.3GHz. I had a GeForce Ti4200 AGP 4X card but got a FX5900 128MB card yesterday with AGP 8X and DirectX 9.0 functionality. The difference in graphics is absolutely STUNNING. There is so much better rendition in finer detail of scenery obstacles at airports and at altitude using 1600x1200 resolution. I get very little of that "shimmering" effect now. I have all sliders to the max. Frame rates only slow down to 8fps or so when flying in thick complex cloud formations, otherwise - awesome. FS2002 was very much CPU dependent, as is FS2004, but this latest game from MS is leaps ahead in the graphics department and I'm very happy with the money spent on this great video card.

So I guess you would say "YES" the better graphics card makes a diffrenece? Did it help you in the FPS department.

Im soo frustrated right now becuase when my FPS drop to below 14 fps or so (lock at 20fps) my sounds starts to stutter REALLY bad...and I would like to see if a new graphics card would take some of the load off the CPU to help kill this problem.

    thanks...my specs are below

FX5900 does improve fps, but not by a huge amount. In the most demanding of situations with all sliders max., instead of 4-6fps, I now see fps dropping to around 8-10 momentarily.

I also upgraded from the Soundblaster Live! (frustrated by crackling and poppings artifacts) to the Audigy2 sound card - very nice - FINALLY clear crisp sounds the way it should be! I highly recommend this card.

    Hi Itai,
I run a Dell 3.04Ghz Pc and a Geforce TI4600 128mb card. Although I can max out the sliders and still run ok, frame rates take a big hit around large airports with alot of AI traffic. I like to set AI at 100%. I normally run most slider between half and full and manage to keep 20fps. I've always noticed with both FS2002 & 4 that the AI traffic really seems to be a frame rate killer, more so than the weather. I am also glad to hear that Punchy501 is having better success with his new audio card. I too have a Soundblaster Live, and hear alot of crackles in it, and am thinking of switching to another sound card.

    Thanks Guys

So the bottom line is that even a 3Ghz machine won't run this baby maxed out in dense airport with AI traffic.
Seems like we will need a 4Ghz machine then :-)
I too have a Soundblaster Live and I get from time to time the cracks in the sound, didn't relate it to the sound card , thought it was my processor choking.

    Nice tip.

If you have the money to throw at it, replace the SB with an Audigy2. Cured my sound problems completely. (Same problems as you are having).

unfortunately, the correct answer is no. i have the same combo. had to set AI traffic to 75% and Autogen set to "normal". with All other sliders maxxed, at airports like KATL, KLAX etc. even in clear skies fps still fall into the mid to upper teens.

    happy flyin, fm

I'm running a P4 3 at 3GHZ with a GeForce 4 4200 with 128 MB on board and a Gig of system RAM. I've got the sliders maxed out and everything is working great.
