    Default Need help with Antialiasing

I hope this question doesn't sound to dumb:
If I set my video card settings for Anisotropic Filtering (AF) for a given number, and do the same for Antialiasing (AA), should the Antialiasing option be checked or unchecked within the FS2004 options display setup window? Or should the AA option only be checked within FS2004 if your using the "Application Preference" option for the AA of AF video card settings?

Also, what exactly does AF do and how important is it?

Hope someone can answer this for me.

    Thank You,

You should leave the setting in the video card control panel on "Application Preference". That way the game can control the settings properly.

So far as I have gleaned from my own experience as well as others in this forum, if you have AA set on your card then don't check the AA box in the sim.

AF has to do with distance texturing and is a framerate hog.

The Sim is designed for operation in FULL SCREEN MODE...the tick in the Anti-Aliasing box ONLY refers to this mode and will NOT apply AA to WINDOWED MODE. You can apply Anti-Aliasing to WINDOWED mode by "Forcing" AA in your Driver software under Windows Display Properties. Microsoft FS Team expert frown strongly on this...however, if you insist on using WINDOWED MODE then there is no other way to get AA.

I operate exclusively in FULL SCREEN MODE and ALL my screenshots show Anti-Aliasing. I allow the application to control AA and do no forcing or AF.

I am surprised at how many people still make screenshots without AA and find all those "Jaggies" completely spoil the look of the picture.

I never turn AA off...even when looking for more control for a difficult display sequence of flying, I would use another method to raise the frame rates.
