    Default Error Starting FS 2004

Would some tell me what I need to do to start FS 2004, I am using Win. XP home and the only user and when I try to start FS 2004 I get a message saying to please login with administrator privileges and try again. Thanks in advance.

Start WinXP, select Control Panel, select User Accounts, and see if your one and only account is an Administrator account. If it indicates it is a limited account, you could try adding a new account and make sure it has administrator privileges. If you can make a new account with AP, then login on that account. enter User accounts again, and assign AP to the original account. If successful in changing the original account, login on the original account, then delete the new AP account.

Another thing to try is press the shift key, then right click the FS icon, select run as, and see if their is a hidden/unknown administrator account. If there is another account, beware it could be a virus, and try starting the FS with that account.

If the above is unsuccessful, try searching the Microsoft knowledge base for answers.

If you don't have administrator privileges then restart your computer and hold down the F8 key before XP starts to load. Then select the Safe Mode option. If you have multiple users then you will be prompted to select a user to login. Select Administrator and if prompted, type in the password. Now go to the control panel and double click on the User Accounts, select your normal account and then change the account type to Computer Administrator. Exit, shutdown and restart normally.

Thanks balus, I knew there was a way, just couldn't remember how!! I remember it being listed somewhere. I looked in the Help but didn't see the answer. I even had the F8 screen up but didn't think to try safe mode.
