Thread: Will 1.4GHz, 256 DDR and GF2 run FS2004?

  1. #1

    Default Will 1.4GHz, 256 DDR and GF2 run FS2004?

I read on this forum that CPU, videocard and RAM are the key factors in FS performance.

How will my 1.4GHz AMD, 256MB DDR and GeForce 2 MX440 run FS2004? Think the GeForce 2 will slow it down the most... And to what card should I upgrade? Don't like to spend a lot of money... Thanks in advance,

Some people say you'll get equal performance to FS2002, some say no. It depends what you want FPS wise. It's not that bad of a system, probably can run FS2004 okay.

I hope it performs (almost) the same, FS2002 run perfectly. 15+ FPS must be possible, right? Thanks for responding so quickly.

I've heard reports on other sites from 'unofficial' beta testers ;-) that the new 3-d clouds will obliterate the performance of a machine your caliber. That was enough for me to build myself a new system in preparation.

If you don't want to plunk down for a new machine, at the very least upgrade your RAM to 512MB. Its a huge bang for the buck.

And if you have anything left over, upgrade your video card. GF2? Ouch.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-21-03 AT 04:50PM (EDT)[p]I have the same system as you but with less ram, bout 128mb and an ati 64mb 7000 series, yet i get frames in fs2k2 pro of about 20fps.These two video cards cost bout the same price yet ati comes out on top.I used to have a geforce 2 which was the biggest mistake i made cause its performance was unsatisfactory.I suggest you get more ram and get an ati card for better performance.

Hey, I have pretty much the same set up as u but i got a AMD 1800+ XP (1.53 Ghz) and I can tell you about the performance. Most of the time i get between 23-29 fps during regular flights on a clear day. But as you enter crowded cities or heavy 3d cloud formation, fps drops down to 9 - 14. And all this is done in medium high detail on all settings at 1024x768 resolution. Definitely need something above GeForce 3 128mb ddr to make it feasible. Our Geforce2 MX400 is severely restricted in terms of graphics bandwidth and fill rate. Even the cheap geforce 4 Mx440 (10$ more) is about 1.5 times faster.

If u like, i can shw u some screen

That would be really nice... But what new graphics card do you all recommend?

Theres a lot of questions and attempted answers about graphics cards and their compatibility with FS2004. A lot of people are reporting that they are finding that their ATI cards are making text in FS2004 blurry and streaky, and some are saying that it doesnt affect the game at all. With these rumors going round, I would say play safe and get an NVIDIA card. You can buy a geforce 4 MX440 now for under $100 and the TI series of cards are also dropping in price due to the new FX series, which I believe are over-rated and if you wanna use your computer without losing your hearing, I wouldnt recommend the dust buster cards (the ones that take up the two AGP slots in the back of your case). If I were you I would do some research and get the most your money can buy. Check magazines and PC review sites such as Toms hardware.

    I hope this helped, cheers
