Default FSDS2 aircraft work, but FSDS aircraft DON'T

LAST EDITED ON Jun-28-03 AT 12:27PM (EDT)[p]Say goodbye forever to all your FSDS aircraft when you upgrade to FS2004, they do not work. Neither do DF737 or PIC767 (without a patch). PSS Dash 8 works, but some of the gauges will not appear. Apparently FS2004 brought with it some changes in how it handles vector gauges, causing them to not appear.

FSDS2 aircraft do work however. Start holding your breath.

Does that mean the Falcon 50 won't work! Isn't that an FSDS aircraft. The pride of the fleet!!!!!!!

I don't know about the panel or avionics, but the visual model will not work.

How do we know this? It's not that I don't trust you, just there's been many rumors flying around of late. I was under the impression that everything that had been made following the developer's kit worked.

Nels? Do you have any information you can give us?

    Thanks-

Dosen't it bother you that just as you're trying to make a smooth touchdown in an Airbus, the GPWS shouts "RETARD, RETARD" at you?

I think that many people are going to get a shock when they load their older planes into FS2004 :-lol Microsoft aren't legally bound to the SDK rules, and neither are the aircraft designers ....

I feel that many people's deluded optimism will be shattered in Late July/Early August ;)

This statement appears to be true. I have an extensive libary of both FSDS and FSDS2 designs here at flightsim.com. I recently sent 2 FSDS designs and 2 FSDS2 designs to a friend of mine who is a beta tester for FS2004. The FSDS designs did not show and the FSDS2 designs worked just fine. A little thought explains the situation; FSDS was optimized for FS2000 where the .mdl file was a form of a .dll file. FSDS2 was optimized for FS2002 where the .mdl file is something other than a .dll file (the name escapes me). Bruce Thorson explained this very well in a response at the FFDS design forum some time ago. Unless someone develops a hack for the .mdl file the only solution appears to be to take the FSDS .fsc and run it through FSDS2 which basically means redoing all the animations and then compiling into FS2004. Simflyers KJFK was tested in FS2004 so the FSDS Scenery works but not the aircrafts :-(

Well that's just plain easy: In case you're actually right with that there will be no FS9 for me and be sure that I won't ever regret. But maybe some ignoramuses in Redmont/WA will...

Wasn't simflyers JFK made in GMAX? If so I'd expect it to work. I wonder if one of their older sceneries (KEWR or KATL) would have problems.
