Hello,
Does FS2004 officially support Windows 98?
I would like to go down on record as saying Windows 98 has been, is, and will be (assuming Microsoft never gets around do doing it right again) the best OS ever made.

Griff
did you ever use Windows XP?

Of course, and there's just something not right about the whole thing. Too much junk, Win. 98 is simple and straight, very good for Flight Sim.
Griff
lol!
was just curious, that's all..What junk are you referring to, I have it, and I don't see any extra junk?
*not turning this into what's better conversation, just curious*

It may work, but I would not expect any support either from Microsoft or 3rd party developers should you have problems, cause it just won't be available. Some 3rd party developers have already given up on Win98.
Win98--both editions was more problem prone for me than ME, but XP works great.

I'm with Griff!
I have Win98 and love it! It's reasonably stable, and as he stated, strait to the point..simple. I've seen my friends machine run XP and it is horrible! It stutters , locks up, and we counted this on a timer, litterally, took 5 minutes, 30 some-odd seconds to crank up!!!!! My machine takes 48 sec from a dead, cold start.
But I realise, I'll have to let go one day........sigh.

I have both, and ME too, and Win98 really isn't close to XP, not even in the same league. XP is not "reasonably stable" it is VERY stable, as in I've been running my XP machine for 6 weeks straight without a reboot or any error.
Again, no comparison between the two, except they both say "Windows".
In short order, Win98 will be obsolete, especially when it comes to FS2004 and advanced 3rd party add-ons with the latest graphics technology. You can expect support for Win98 to cease from most developers for FS2004, MS is also dropping support for it, and ME is not too far behind.
I'm suggesting to all to upgrade to XP or if available, Win2000.
Just telling it like it is. ;-)

Your friend must be having severe hardware issues if he is having lots of problems with XP. Or, it's an old computer. There is no argument here, XP is a much better operating system if your hardware is up to it.
I wouldn't even attempt to run the following programs simultaneously on Win98 as I do flawlessly with XP Pro:
FS2002
SquawkBox
Roger Wilco
ServInfo
FSNav
Opened Web Pages
And 3 monitors
Also, very soon MS won't even be supporting Win98. It's becoming a dead operating system.
Rick - KPDX - Private Pilot (Vatsim AAL252)
P4 @ 3.4GHz 1GB-1066MHz RDRam
Water-Cooled & 3 Monitors
From what i heard, Win 98 had a pretty severe memory handling problem which was fixed in subsequent versions. As FS is a memory intensive game i should think that upgrading from 98 to XP should improve performance a little.
I must admit, i liked 98, but it's no competition with XP.
