Thread: Freeware FS 2002 Bush Flying Scenery

  1. Default Freeware FS 2002 Bush Flying Scenery

I am still using FS 2002 Professional Edition, and downloaded almost all of the FS 2002 bush flying scenery Frank Betts created for it.

For some odd reason, though, I never got around to trying to install any of it until within the last couple of weeks. It all installed and appears without any trouble. I noticed something a little strange, though, after installing a set called "Southern Cliff Airport" which I'm hoping one of you can shed some light on.

After selecting "Southern Cliff Airport," FS 2002 loads and the aircraft then appears on the runway. I noticed about midway down the runway, that several of the buildings appeared to be suspended in mid-air.

Anyway, my question is this: Is this something that's easily fixable by the casual user??? If so, how, and do I need any other downloads/programs, etc., etc.???

I don't have anything terribly exotic installed, just standard FS 2002 stuff like Active Sky Wxre and FS Global SE. I also have a fairly quick PC, a HP M7640N Media Center PC, with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000 processor, 320GB hard drive, and Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE graphics, so capacity isn't an issue.

The rest of his scenery looks pretty cool, and I can see how much hard work he, and others like him, put into it for others to enjoy. I tried e-mailing Frank, and it just bounced back.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!!!

    Best Regards,

Not an expert here, but what does the designers readme say regarding mesh?

Maybe your FS Global SE corrects the original mesh and makes buildings floating which were designed with the default terrain in mind?

    Hi!

That was the one thing I forgot to mention-Frank (the designer) included a set of "Landclass" files with instructions to insert them into the main FS2002 Scenery folder. Tried it with the "Landclass" files installed, then without. Same thing both times-buildings floating in mid air....

As far as mesh goes, Frank mentioned it was tested and worked with ED Denney's mesh for 2000. He did'nt say what was used to create it (FSDS, maybe???) Also, I did'nt want to cause problems with the more current FS Global SE scenery mesh by using ED Denney's older stuff.

Hope I can fix this since it's pretty cool, but have a feeling I may have to just forget it and move onto something else.

    Thanks for the fast response!

I'M pretty sure now your prob is the FS Global SE mesh you are using.

If Frank created and tested and approved it with another mesh than what you are using, although it might be more accurate/newer, hence you got floating buildings since both meshes differ from each other in this case.

Landclass has nothing to do with elevations. It just tells FS which texture to put and show where.

    Mesh is all baout elevations.

You might just install Franks/Ed's Mesh addon just for the specific area and give it a higher priority in the scenery menue.

You even could turn it off with the click of your mouse if you are flying in the same area but you want to use FS Global Mesh instead once in a while or vice versa.
