    Default ifr flight plans

    Could anyone please tell me if I am doing anything wrong
    In FS2002 when I file an IFR flight plan at the gate, when I taxi to the runway and contact the tower for clearance I can only specify VFR I have to file the IFR plan at the runway and although flying the plan I do not get any runway or airport vectors from ATC. I am probably missing something simple can anyone help please

    When you have created the flight plan, save it. Open ATC at the gate and you will receive clearance, vectors for departure after takeoff and vectors for arrival as you approach your destination. The flight plan will appear in the GPS window as a green line. You can also obtain information on the next waypoint by clicking on Mode on the GPS. Click on Mode again and you have the next 8(?) waypoints.
    Hope this helps.

    I am having trouble getting ATC to "recognize" my flight plan. I load a flight plan (IFR). I activate ATC. I get taxi instructions, clearance, etc. I take off. My flight plan calls for a left turn as soon as possible after takeoff. I can fly rwy heading for 100 miles and ATC never says boo to me.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    I can't remember, but is there an option upon activating he ATC window, to contact clearance delivery?

    After takeoff, does the ATC say to contact departure control? Is there an option to contact departure after takeoff?
    It has been a while since I usd FS-8 so these may not apply.

    Hi,

    You probably overlooked something.
    I just tried it out myself. Sequence is as follows:
    - load flightplan (do not forget to specify the gate you are at at departure airport);
    - activate ATC and contact clearance;
    - afterwards, contact ground who will tell you how to taxi to which runway;
    - contact tower and request clearance for take off;
    - take off and switch to departure (just follow on screen ATC instructions), they should "show you the way to go home".
    Tried it with a B737 as well as with a Cessna 172. Both times it worked perfectly.

    ""In FS2002 when I file an IFR flight plan at the gate, when I taxi to the runway and contact the tower for clearance I can only specify VFR ""

    Now are you 'sure' you have made an IFR flight plan? You have checked the box specifying IFR? Then select Direct GPS, or High altitude airways, or VOR to VOR? Make sure all are done. You will probably be asked to save that flight plan. This will overwrite any existing flightplan with the same name.

    Now after clicking OK, you should be at the gate, contact clearance Delivery. It should say IFR plan in the voice when you request perhaps.

    After contacting ground, you hould also hear your plane's request to taxi, like "35R ready to taxi IFR to Phoenix (or wherever).
    At the runway, tower freq, preoablly the same thing.
    You should have that option when requesting takeoff clearance.

    Try it again, and see if you can bring up the IFR text.
    Good luck,
    Gary Rabbitt :)

    I agree with Gary. I had the same problem - ATC would not "recognize" my flight plan. I got no vectors, etc. Turns out, I had inadvertantly set my flight plan for "VFR" instead of "IFR."

    Go in and check. I'll bet your flight plan is VFR.

    Let us know.

    hey folks tnx to all of you for your help I just realized that when you create a flight plan you must create it from the gate of your departure airport or it defaults to active runway i fell a little silly for missing this thanks a lot to all of you
