Well, after spending many minutes (and some entertaining ones at that), I got frustrated enough to download a different version of the C-5 that had no problems and included an accurate panel instead of the default 737.

I immediately flew from Travis AFB to SFO in marginal VFR to celebrate my new found ship and parked it at the UAL gate 16. Whatta cool new toy I have.
I can't beleive I got tired of my ol' FS2002...just didn't know of this outlying community of developers and add-ons.
Thanks all. I'm havin' fun now.

    Hi Electroboy,
If all you have done is download a new plane, then you have barely scratched the surface at what FS can do. Even with this version.
Sceneries, real traffic flight schedules, weather programs, add ons for almost anything you like. Helicopters, fictional aircraft, spaceships, even a guy on a broom (Harry Potter?).
Hope you have fun, and hope to see you here often.
    Take care, Gary Rabbitt :)

    Gary Rabbitt :)

    Oh nooo, noo my friend.
I have gone way beyond just scratching the surface into DEEPLY LACERATING the underlying tissues.
I went so far as to modify the flight model for the C-5 I updated to (the thing wouldn't slow down enough at throttle idle).
I have created and loaded AI for domestic and international USAF operations I observe locally, AI for light commercial/corporate and GA, textures for the majors who operate @ OAK, SFO and SMF, textured my regional AI and have added and configured airport architecture locally to accomodate the traffic changes.

Since I'm a sailplane pilot, I've loaded terrain textures and thermal/orographic lift generating routines along with models of my favorite sailplanes. Finally, I'm re-designing my own favorite soaring sites in the Sierras, and Europe.

I'm scratching away at that surface.

Thanx for the encouragement. I once shelved my FS2002 cuz it was getting boring.
Not no more. this is fun again.
