Thread: Aircraft Panel

  1. Default Aircraft Panel

    I just installed the Beechcraft King Air B200C to my FS2002. Aircraft showed a blank panel when pulled up to fly. The read me file stated that a separate panel might have to be downloaded, so I found it and downloaded it. The panels show under the aircraft file but still not in the actual aircraft. Can anyone help me? This is the first time I have tried any add on to my FS so I really think I don't know quite what I am doing.
    Thanks,
    Ed

  2. Default RE: Aircraft Panel

    Ed,

    After installing the panels you got to reference it in the aircrafts panels folder.

    In you case go to your aircrafts folder and open up the King Air B200C folder.. King Air B200C/
    Model
    Panel <<<<<<< Open This one
    Sound
    Texture
    In there shound be a file called panel.cfg
    Open this file in note pad and type in the location of the king air panel you installed. See example below.

    [fltsim]
    alias=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\AIRCRAFT\FSFSCONV\Panel.737sab

    Your location may vary but simply stated just type in the locaion of the king air panel which might look something like this

    [fltsim]
    alias=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\Panels\King Air B200C

    thats it now go fly and it should show. BTW you can do this for any aircraft you want.

    hope this helps ya.

  3. Default RE: Aircraft Panel

    Douglas, I have copied the file from notepad to this message. I know it is long (and probably overkill) but I don't understand or know where to type in location of King Air Panel. Under "aircraft" mine is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\aircraft\RFDS_Kingair_B200C. What do I do with it and where? And thanks for your help..!!!!

  4. Default RE: Aircraft Panel

    Ed,

    Below is an example of how the folder is laid out(missing are the little yellow folders)

    C:\
    Program Files
    \Microsoft Games
    \FS2002
    \aircraft
    \RFDS_Kingair_B200C .... A
    Model .... B
    Panel .... C
    Sound .. D
    Texture... E

    A. Contains aircraft config file and air file some other files as well
    B. Contains your kig air model file
    C. Contains the panel.cfg file which has two user options. Option 1 is called "using an alias" in other words you can assign for example a boeing 737 panel to your king air by typing in the following in your panel.cfg file
    [fltsim]
    alias=B737_400\panel or Option 2

    Use the panel cfg file included with your king air( which is that file you pasted). All the gauges required for the king air panel must be present in your gauges fold for the panel to display correctly.

    **** NOTE *** You do not have to use option 1 since a complete panel.cfg file is included with your package. Flight sim will look in your aircrafts respective folders for the files it requires to dispay your model correctly. Just ensure that all files supplied are installed correctly, that includes all gauges, textures etc.

    D. Contains all sound files or a similar config file indicating which sound package is assigned to your king air

    E. Contains the texture files which display the paint and so on.

    good luck,

    Douglas

    Douglas,
    Well, I guess I am dumber than I thought - this New Year is not starting out good -
    Anyway, I can see, find, and get into everything you are talking about, but I still do not understand WHERE I am supposed to type in WHAT information! Where are the "options 1 & 2"? Nothing like that comes up on my notepad.
    Maybe I installed or unzipped wrong. I am thinking of deleting the files and starting over.....
    Can you make it any plainer for a newbie?
    Thanks for all the trouble you have gone to...!
    Ed

    Ed,

    Maybe you can zip up the king air folder and send it to me at

    I'll try it out and see whats happening with it.

    Default RE: Aircraft Panel

    Hi Ed,
    You may be making it more difficult than needed.
    First, almost all new panels will come with it's own panel.cfg file.
    Your new panel will come with it's own panel folder, inside are the bitmaps for the panel background, and a panel.cfg file.
    You simply replace the default panel with the new one. You can RENAME the old panel folder and save it where it is now, in case you want to switch back.
    You CANNOT HAVE 2 panel folders in your particular aircraft folder (Beech 200). So either use the old or the new one.FS can't read both.
    When you fire up the plane from now on, FS will read the panel.cfg file, and load it. You should be able to see it when you then load the plane.
    Some downloaded panel files come with it's own set of gauges, These must be aded to the main GAUGES folder. Dont put the folder in the folder, but rather put the individual gauges in with the rest of the gauges. Gauges have the .gau extension.
    You should not have to edit any file to see your new panel, if it is in the same folder as your plane.
    Try this and see if it works. For now do it this way. Then read about aliasing below.

    BTW, there is another method of adding a panel to a plane, called "aliasing".
    For example. Lets say you have several seperate Beech aircraft, and you want to use the same panel for all of them.
    You COULD install that panel in each plane. But that takes up HD space, ti install to each. You are able to "assign" or alias a panel from any other aircraft you have, or have a folder with several panels inside.
    You will then need to assign that panel like this.
    Inside of the panel folder you see the 'panel.cfg file'. This tells FS which gauges to use, etc. But you will need to edit, or write in the panel.cfg file, telling FS where the panel is AND the path to it.
    Make a backup of the drfault panel.cfg file
    Then rename the cfg file as "panel.cfgOLD"
    You now have 2 panle.cfg files in the drfault folder. With me so far?
    Leave the backup alone. Open the first cfg file with Wordpad or Notepad. You will see lots of entries like the gauges etc.
    Highlight all this and delete the text.
    Now at the top of that notepad file, you will then tell FS the path where that panel is.
    For example, just for illustration: If you want to add the Lear45 panel to your Beechcraft, you will write this text in the cfg file:

    [fltsim]
    alias=lear45\panel

    Then save and close the file. Now, when FS loads your Beech, it will see you want it to load the Lear panel for the Beech. Got it?
    alias means to find the panel elsewhere, you specify the path,
    Lear45\panel
    This is simple, saves space. You may want a special panel for your Beechcrafts. You can put the folder,You can name it (addonpanls) (or whatever) with all new panel in a folder in the Main Aircraft folder.

    You may have one De Luxe panel named BeechSpecial for example. Your text in your beech panel.cfg would only say:
    [fltsim]
    alias=addonpanls\BeechSpecial

    I will leave you with a link to the Flightsim.com's How-To of adding panels:
    http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?OIr...2p/fs2002p.htm
    If you have any problems come on back.
    Good luck!
    Gary Rabbitt
