So, what is the difference between rafcad and afcad? I think I understand rafcad as radius-afcad but how is it different from a practical standpoint and when would you use rafcad over afcad or vice versa?

Think of a typical afcad file...it's just a bunch of parking spots, different sizes, different radius parameters. A rafcad file is just more specific, using specific radius parameters so airlines will park grouped together. Either way, you can get either type of file and edit it how you'd like by using the afcad utility. I just build my own airports from scratch using afcad utility, because no matter what file I'd download, I'd always need to make adjustments anyway..:7

RAFCAD is AFCAD with one additional feature. You set up parking based on radius size. There is a chart at the Project AI website that defines the radius for most all aircrafts/airlines. You set your aircrafts' radius to match the chart using AITM, then make the parking gates in AFCAD certain radius for certain planes. That's the RAFCAD method. It is only used to control parking by airlines.
RAFCAD? I've been gone for 2 months and this is what happens!
Flightsimming is like a language, you dont practice, you forget and get old in it...

I agree Neil,
I've basically re-done every AFCAD file I've downloaded. Usually just easier to start from scratch!

Rick, we are on the same page I see. Believe me all - this is not a knock on any payware publisher nor freeware publisher which I tip my hat to, but nobody can make my sim look as real as I can. That is the best part about this hobby, with all the utlities available, with a little understanding you can literally duplicate the entire flying world as it operates, right on your own computer...but the time involved..aaarrgghhh! But it's worth it in the long run. And darn addicting! The more real it looks, the more you want to make it look real, right? Ok, I'll stop babbling now :-lol

Thanks for all the info! I may just start fooling around with RAFCAD. I did notice on Project AI that they have RAFCAD files for certain airports. Has anyone ever used any of these?
