Thread: Help, Help, I've lost my Chrome... GeForce4 440 Go

  1. Default Help, Help, I've lost my Chrome... GeForce4 440 Go

    I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 with a GeForce4 440 Go video card and I can't get it to display the chrome textures. I used to have a Dell 8100 with a GeForce3 and had no problems. But when I "upgraded" to the GeForce4 440 go, i`ve found that i no longer have shinny metalic metal (ie. chrome), it`s all grey or flat. Please HELP!!!

    Here is a file you can download from this site or at avsim which will replace your chrome effect for you.

    Just do a search for gf4mxdsp.zip

    (copied from Alan's reply further down the forum :))

    I replaced the display.cfg file with the file on gf4mx.zip, but that did not fix the problem, could it be that's because I have a GeForce4 440 Go and not a GeForce4 MX?. what's the difference between these two viedeo cards? Any other suggestions? Thank you

    Hmm, strange one, I saw someone mention on another forum a while back that that fix worked on that problem. Sorry, I gave you incorrect info there.:(

    First, press start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system information. Select Components, Display. You should see a line similiar to the following:

    PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0281&SUBSYS_89431462&REV_A1\4&618BA55&0&0008

    The numbers VEN_10DE&DEV_0281 convert to:

    ;NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
    &l;000010DE:00000281&r;
    DriverValidate2=1

    for my example.

    Check your numbers and see if a set is available for your numbers. If so, remove the ";" from the two lines below the name of the card. If your card numbers aren't listed try adding your card using the example above or the different ones listed in the display.cfg file.

    Thank you W. Sieffert:

    That took care of the problem. The magic number for the GeForce4 440 Go is 0174(VEN_10DE&DEV_0174). I also received a e-mail from Scott Jelinek and he told me the same thing you did. The file gf4mxdsp.zip does not have the text bellow, adding those lines to the display.cfg file will bring the chrome textures to the 440 Go. Thank you again.

    ;NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go
    [000010DE:00000174]
    DriverValidate2=1
