Best mobo for the 3.06 Ghz, 533 Mhz FSB correct?

Look into an Asus or an Abit for the best motherboards. Yes, you will be much better off with an Intel chipset like the i865 Springdale or the i875 Canterwood.

I know you have a 533 Mhz FSB processor, but I would seriously consider looking into a new Springdale or Canterwood mobo such as the Asus P4P800 or P4C800 or the Abit IS7 or IC7. There are many improvements beyond support for 800 Mhz FSB Pentium 4's.

I wouldn't touch a SIS chipset with a 10 foot pole. They are awful. I have a friend who has a motherboard with a SIS chipset. It's slow and buggy. Not surprisingly, the motherboard was pretty darn cheap.

Thanks Tim. I thought i was better off with not buying a SIS chipset motherboard, about as good as there vid cards,I will go for the intel.

    Hi

Just upgraded my mobo from an ASUS P4PE (845 Chipset) to the ASUS P4P800. Huge increase in performance. Went from 10500 Points to 14800 points in 3D Mark 2001. Should give the rest of my specs..

    Intel P4 3.06 533 FSB with HT
1 GIG DDR 333 Ram (2 512 chips in Dual channel mode on the new mobo)
    NVidia FX 5800 video card
    Windows XP Home

I think the increase in performance comes from now being able to utilize the 8x AGP of this video card (the old mobo only supported 4 times) and the dual channel ram. All other components are the same. FS2002 runs better than ever, once again probably because of the Dual channel ram.

    Good luck!

No probs Sir.. apart from the bit about 8x agp causing a benefit... (It was the dual channel memory - NOT the 8x - no way until faster vram comes along..

I have hardly ever seen an Intel chipset bettered.. they are SUPERB, they come along with classics from time to time.. like the BX440 and the Canterwood units...

amd are not in the game to produce chipsets, so look for the best non processor manufacturer make if buying amd, otherwise for intel.. intel chipsets will be your best bet.. by FAR..

Well I learned something, never touch a SIS. Also if you want to find out this information sometimes it is useful to go to a review site and look at reviews. Here is a good site.
