Anyone performed this upgrade.?
What difference did it make ?
I can only use a 266fsb cpu with my mobo and am thinking of upgrading.
Cheers

Haven't done the upgrade but thats about a 500 Mhz jump--it should be good for something. If you've got an older 266 mobo you'll most likely have to flash the BIOS to run the 2400.
If you do the upgrade post again and let us know how it went.

I wouldn't suggest it. From what I have seen from someone, on this forumn, who upgraded their athlon and saw about a 1-2 frame rate increase. It was about a 300 Mhz jump, but it didn't really help. The only place you will probably see a major difference is in a benchmark, but in FS2002 you will see about a 4 FPS MAX jump.
Incase you haven't heard the 50/50 rule, simply don't upgrade your computer unless it will increase you performance by 50% while spending less than 50% of what your computer is worth. In this case you will be spending about $100 (about 1/10 what your computers worth) to upgrade your computer about 1/4 its performance. I would suggest saveing up for your next computer. As that is the best upgrade!
But it all comes down to what you want to do, and like witcha said. Come back with the results!
no more pretty sig....
I'll probably be performing that exact same upgrade in a few weeks. Before I begin o/cing it, I'll test FS2k2 and 3DMark2001SE at its default clockspeed and I'll come back here with the results. I'll spend the $100 to let you know the results before you do the same thing, OK? I've already been planning this upgrade for about a month anyway.

Sounds good to me..;-)
I cant O/C on my mobo ( K7S5A), but yeah would be great if you could let us know.
Athlons are due another price drop soon I think, so it may well be going this route regardless.
Cheers again

Tim,
Maybe it'd be a good idea to go to an XP2600 T'Bred B.Costs a bit more(but not much)and has the added advantage of 333fsb,assuming your mobo can handle it.The T'Bred B's are much better to overclock, and I don't see the point of buying a T'Bred A when you can buy a T'Bred B for a few bucks more.I made the jump from XP2200(T'Bred A) to XP2700(T'Bred B)and gained effectively 413MHz,but what REALLY made the difference was the the jump from 266 to 333fsb.With my system like it is now(see below)with my worse case combo(F1 Meridian at Emma Field)I'm getting 20-25fps(locked at 25)The point I'm trying to make is,the T'Bed B's are much better to overclock than the A's,and even if they're defaulted to 266fsb because of mobo limitations, you're still gonna be able to squeeze more out of it than a T'Bred A.Well worth it for the few bucks more IMO

I'm getting it for two reasons:
1. 500+ Mhz extra horsepower for FS:COF
2. The T-bred core which runs much cooler than the Palomino I have now and is a great, stable o/cer.
Just checked: $90 at Newegg which is down $8 from two nights ago. I'm hoping to get it for $80-85 in two or three weeks time.
AMD is dropping prices in response to the 800 Mhz FSB P4s and to start paving the way for the Athlon 64 in September/October. All the power to them! It all works out to the consumer's benefit. ;-)

XP 2400+'s are all based on the Tbred-B core. It came out after AMD patched up the Tbred-A and replaced it with the Tbred-B.
I would consider a 2600+ since they are just over $100 now after some significant price cutting by AMD this week, but my motherboard just old enough that won't support 333 Mhz FSB :-mad and the 266 Mhz FSB version is hard to find.
I know all about the Tbred-A core fiasco and I'm making sure that I get a B revision. Since that's all the 2400+ runs on, I'm fine.

Have to say you're right about the A and B T'Bred, got it a bit mixed up(the red wine again)The jump from XP2400 to XP2600 is of course about 266 to 333 fsb.I must also say that my XP2700 is actually an XP2600,because of the overclock it is identified as an XP2700 in BIOS.I o'cd it from 2083Hz to 2250Hz(12.5x180),without even having to change the heatsink! And it's so stable I have also been able to change my ram timimgs to 5-2-2-2 from 6-3-3-3.(Still have only 9800 Marks in 3D,due to my GF3 card)Good luck with your update, let me know how it runs when you're finished!

Hold on guy's........My mobo only suports 266fsb
Which is why I'm looking at the 2400xp 266fsb, or 2600xp if i can find one.
If I'm gonna have to upgrade my mobo , then I'll be going for higher spec cpu
All I was asking was if anyone had upgraded from 1800xp to 2400xp
