Default A few questions about upgrading PC

Right first of all, my current system :-

    P4 1.6Ghz
    256MB RAM
    Geforce 3 Ti200

I want to upgrade this system, mainly for games playing, like FS2004 when it's released. But I'm not sure what would be the best way to go.

If I bought a new processor, I would need a new motherboard correct? How easy would this be to install? Would I need to buy other new hardware? (by the way I've done a little bit of PC building at college, and I know people who have experience with this, so as long as it is relatively simple, I shouldn't have problems)

Or should I upgrade the memory? Or Gfx card?

Would doing this (upgrading one or two things) make a significant performance gain do you think? I don't really want to splash out on an entire new PC unless absolutely nescesary (pardon my spelling!).

    What would you reccomend?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Would you need another motherboard? Depends. Which one do you currently have? What type of RAM do you have (speed and type)? If you know what make/model motherboard, you can look up the max processor it will support and the type of RAM it supports.

You video card is okay. It isn't the greatest, but for MSFS it's fine. Getting an additional 256 MB RAM would be a good idea though. However, it all depends on how much money you have and what performance you find acceptable.

Right, how do I find out what motherboard I have? Is it a case of taking the case off and having a look?

most motherboards have the name or code written on it, usually in between the PCI ( white ) slots, if its code, just type that it in google or something and it should bring up some results.

heres a tutorial on fitting a motherboard
