1. Default Just how loud are 747-200's??

LAST EDITED ON May-08-03 AT 01:40PM (EDT)[p]We are off to Boston on our holidays this year, and the flights are:

Manchester (UK) - London Heathrow BMI A321

London Heathrow - Boston Logan Intl Continental 747-200

Boston Logan Intl - Newark Continental 737-300

Newark - London Heathrow - Continental 747-200 (I think, I cand find the flight) (It may be a Virgin Atlantic 747-400, they seem to use them alot)

Are 747-200s noisy loads of people say yes but others no...
I just hate loud planes!
Thanks.

They're louder than 747-400s, but it ultimately all depends on where you sit.

In the cockpit, at cruise altitude, all you will hear is wind noise, same as with the -400 (yes, I have jump-seated on both).

First class is also very quiet, business class starts to get bit louder, and coach, especially behind the engines is the loudest of all (that's the same for almost all planes). Not really too bad, but certainly not a 777 either.

At least they are not as bad as the 707s! :-eek

Put your headphones on, listen to music, and that's that. Enjoy your stay over here. :-)

If you can cope with the boredom or have something else to do then try and get a seat with a broken games/tv unit or break it yourself. My dads wasnt working on the way back from Florida last summer and the nice hostess gave him a huge carrier bag of bevvy including a litre of Vodka!

Virgin Atlantis Does NOT operate B747-200's any longer. They've all been phased out. Either it's gonna be a 400 or it's gonna be another airline, but it certainly ain't gonna be a Virgin "Classic"

If you want to find out more about Virgin try Yahoo and search under "virgin atlantic fleet"
