Thread: Eddie Denney's AK mesh

  1. Default Eddie Denney's AK mesh

I recently downloaded Eddie Denney's AK mesh and noticed that some areas of water(like Lake Hood, right next to PANC) are raised above the level of the land. This makes it look like there's a hill of water. Uhh, no, real wierd!! Does anybody know how to fix this little Alaska phenomenon?

    Thanks.

    Howdy:

I dusted off a few older threads in the AVSIM forums for you that talk about this issue (there's more if you search for "Denney mesh". Sorry, if that's more technical information than you wanted - it's the lazy-man's response :-)

Basically, it's related to the improved resolution of the mesh, it's slight misplacement relative to shorelines, lakes, and rivers, as well as the fixed elevations of the default lakes. It's fixable but a huge amount of work. I've done some of it for my B.C. meshes (lake by lake, see bc_meshp.zip) and Gilles Gauthier seems to have found a more elegant way for his Quebec mesh (see qc_lod09f.zip) but I don't think anyone has worked on Alaska yet - tag, you're it!

    Cheers, Holger
