Default Fixing My Laptop's Sound Issues

Well, as long as I'm stuck on my laptop, I figured I might as well try and solve this very annoying problem that I've been having with my laptop's sound.

The problem is that I can't hear anything unless I press down very hard in a 'CPR like' motion on right, lower corner of the case just below the keyboard. It seems to be some sort of connection problem with the integrated sound chip (A Crystal Sound Fusion). I've tried to open up the case, but I can only crack open the front part just enough to peak inside. My hand won't fit very well. At least, not enough to adjust any major connections/componets. The speakers are connected however, as I can see their little plugs connected to headers on the mobo.

I've even tried reinstalling the latest sound drivers even though I know that's not the issue - no luck.

I've run out of options. Can anyone add anything else that I might have missed?

Hey Tim,
What brand is it? Best thing I can recommend is to take it into a certified person who can repair that certain brand of laptops.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-27-03 AT 00:02AM (EDT)[p]Toshiba Satellite 1735. It was two years old last month so the warranty has already expired.

I don't know of any Toshiba-Certified repair shops in my area, but the lack of a warranty means that the bill for the repair will probably be big. Not sure if I can justify a $50+ bill for what was originally an $800 laptop (used value is probably about ~$400. The screen has bad pixels right in its center, the sound doesn't work, it's one of those horrible 'passive-matrix' LCD's that ghost like crazy, it has a 700 Mhz Celeron and WinME, etc).

Well, college is only two years off and I should be able to repair my desktop by the end of July. Maybe I'll just forget about it. Next time, I'm definatley getting a Dell though, despite the extra cost. I've had nothing but problems with Toshiba's products (we also have a Toshiba DVD player and it's a piece of junk as well).
