I've just purchased a 3.0GHZ with ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.
My question is what is the best setting on the ATI for the
best performance for quality? There is so many different settings.

Well, not really an ATI expert myself, but search these forums for video card settings, or Radeon 9700 Pro, and I'm sure you'll find an answer...somewhere...

I agree with Ryan, there are a few guys here with the 97p.. they can sure help you out.
Sounds like a nice rig.. have fun with it..

I have the same system. Set Anti-Aliasing to 4x and uncheck application preference. Set anisotropic filtering to 8x with quality bullet checked. I am far from an expert but someone just clued me in on this the other day and man is it better.
And with our system of course, Max Out Everything In FS Options!!
Let me know if you find any better settings.
I run with mesh at 90%, clouds at 60% and water reflections off cause I don't like FS' water reflections. Otherwise max her out in FS settings. Here's my card settings:

Alienware PIV 2.53 533mhz; Dragon Full Tower 340 Watt PS; 512mb PC-1066 Ram; Intel D850EMV2 Mobo; ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb; Koolmax Cooling; SB Audigy 5.1; (FS2k2 Running at 16x12x32 4xAA & 16xAF locked at 22fps.)
I use the same settings as Bigshot is showing you. As he shows, set the Anisotropic Filtering to "Performance" instead of "Quality".

Great minds think alike, I guess. :)
After I got my rig, I surfed this forum for the same type of advice.
Just max everything out and see what happens. I'm still trying to find anything at all to slow down my computer. Hee hee!
I burned a 450mb file to CD in 1:55, listened to my MP3s, and flew a few traffic patterns in FS2002 with no slow down. My inside views range from 20-30fps and outside views (with everything maxed) ranging from 50-80fps. That's with the "Lock Framerate" option within FS2002 set to "unlimited".
Last night, I got paid a visit from the boyz I fly with. I couldn't get them to leave. They're convinced I should consider home schooling off of my home rig when I get around to CFI training next year. Now, why would I want to share my beautiful machine with anyone else? LOL
