I cant believe the whining going on about FS-ACOF!

I have been hanging around these forums for a few years now and cant believe the criticisms i am hearing about the new version of FS.

Sure, every new feature is not going to appeal to everyones tastes but it is impossible to make everyone happy. All Microsoft can do is provide a product which would suit most general users.

People say that there are not many new features etc. but what about the better clouds! How many times have i heard people complain about flat clouds on these forums. What about the TAXIWAY SIGNS! How many times have i heard people say they would like taxiway signs in FS.

People complain alot about the planes. I only fly commerical jetliners so i wont be flying any of the old relic aircraft. But then again, even if they added several new "modern" planes who would fly them anyway? How many of the default FS planes do you fly? A few months after the release there will be loads of fantastic better freeware planes available, built by dedicated developers who have alot more time than Microsoft to create them.

There will also be AI aircraft at smaller airfields, new GPS, scenery enhancements, more airports and lots more!

All for just 54 bucks. We spend half that amount on just a scenery add on or a 3rd party aircraft!

True, there are problems with FS and things could be improved here and there. But rather then looking at what we have not got, have a look at what we HAVE got!

I agree...

Planes: Dreamfleet, F1 etc, give them a while after the release..as well as freeware developers like FlightFX

Old planes: Don't like em? don't fly em!

Taxiway signs? Good

Weather: Goood!

AI, scenery, etc: Goooooood!

In all, if you complain this much...stick with 2002!

The funny part about it is that the whiners (space cadets) will be the first in line to buy it so they can be the first to whine about it in the fourms :-lol :-lol

I agree entirely.

I think FS2002 is amazing and am very happy with it as it stands. The ATC improvements and more AI traffic are all I am interested in in the new release - the rest of it will just be a bonus.

I can never understand how people can slate a product when they have not even tried it out yet. We will all go and and buy it, we will all say this is good and that is bad.

But until we can actually do better ourselves, should we be so harsh in judgement?

Ultimately, this is only a Computer Game - nothing more, nothing less. I will get slated by loads of people for that comment, but it is. It gives us mere mortals the chance to experience as best we can something that we may not achieve through other methods. I would love to fly big jets, but no airline would have me as I don't swim.

As I have said before in this forum, I have been using FS since version 3. It has come on dramatically since then. I sometimes wonder how many of the moaners out there have only just started in the FS world with the current release, or maybe FS2000. These are nothing like versions 3 and 4 and amazing progress has been made in all areas since these.

To all those that want the ultimate in realism, go and buy a proper flight-training system or have flying lessons at your local airfield. I did last year, and actually realised how good FS is at depiction of the Cessnas and such like.

To those of us who are just "armchair pilots", we will carry on enjoying the experience as it is, looking forward to the next FS release and just hoping that any minor niggles we may have will be resolved.

I am pleased to say that I have not been disappointed with any release thus far, compared to the previous one, having purchase them all since those early days.

I await the criticism.

A lot of what you said is true and I agree with you in a general sense,but IMHO it would have made more sense to refine FS2002,get rid of all the bugs,and add the FSCOF aircraft to it.MS throws a new version onto the market every two years or so,before they have the actual version sorted out.If MS had ironed out the bugs in FS2002,and released an update about a year ago,then nobody would need to buy FSCOF anyway. Just about everything that is going to be improved in FSCOF(supposedly)(Clouds,Navigation,AI traffic,ATC etc)can be realized already with various addons.What they should have done was refine the basic program so that the sorce code is improved to make better use of the system rescorces,and improve the FPS and the overall fluidity.Could it be that MS deliberatly do this to us every two years to jack up their profit,or are their software programers too incompetant to write an efficient scorce code?Or am I just being cynical(lol)
On April 7th I'll be 49,and I've been simming a LONG time.I have the feeling that FSCOF will be the same as all the other versions,with everything only 95% developed and full of bugs and glitches.I'm also equaly sure that I'll be one of the first in line when it hits the streets,although I know all this and really should know better at my age!After 18months I finally have FS2002 more or less how I want it,now it's starting to get a bit boring.I need a new challenge,just being able to fly without system crashes,blue screens and new installs isn't enough,I need the new version to get the adrenalin pumping again!Yours seriously(?)

Ever thougt about of what a new version is for?

It's just therefore! "Repairing " bugs and do improvements, may be the one or other new feature. Unfortunately (as every programmer knows) this allmost everytime leads to new bugs, but here we go again waiting for the next version....
