Thread: Flickering and lockups?? IS THIS THE END OF FLIGHTSIMMING FOR ME?

  1. Default Flickering and lockups?? IS THIS THE END OF FLIGHTSIMMING FOR ME?

    Hi all,

Sorry to post too many messages, but Im hoping this will catch someones' eye who has gone through this before. As I mentioned in the post "Ddhelp error and lockups" I am now two full-reformats later and several drivers later and I am still having problems. Everytime I run FS2002 scenery starts to flicker (sometimes while sitting still) and then the computer locks up completely. This computer has run fs2002 just fine in the past (for a year) and now i can't figure out what has caused this. Maybe something in my BIOS that I havent checked? Anyway,i use a GeForce2 MX400 if that helps and I've tried several of the current and past Nvidia drivers. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Could be overheating, could be a dying card.

CPU temp and case temp both stay below 45C - I have not knowlingly (lol) done any overclocking of the computer processor or video card. The card is one year old. I was starting to wonder the same thing though... Any suggestions on testing this?

I had something similar with a dying power source.
maybe it's a 250 Watt and you need to upgrade.
It would stand to reason that FS2002 is utilizing more of your resources than anything else you can do on the machine.

Oh - also it seems to be doing this on both monitors now (different video cards). Wow this has got me going crazy!

You know, interestingly... i may just be imagining this..but it seems as though the last time it functioned properly was prior to installing an additional drive (CDRW). I dont KNOW, because i dont get to play FS2002 THAT often... I only get to play it when it doesnt work! hehe. Do you think unplugging the power from this could test that theory?

Video cards are the real power hogs, (I have 3 installed together LOL). Why not remove one of yours temporarily? If the problem goes away then a heavy duty, name brand, power supply like Enermax is indicated.

It could, You could actually unplug both CDs for a test if you have a full install of FS2002.

The problem with mine was that I actually burned out my power supply. I had two HDDs, a CD, cdr a zip and the graphics card on 250W supply. .....Way too much I know now. I started noticing lockups and such and eventually, my comp wouldn't start up at all. If I pushed the power button, it would begin to fire up and then turn off.
After I replaced the supply, I took the old power supply apart and two capacitors were leaking.

If yours isn't bad, you disconnect a few peripherials and it works, I'd just get a larger supply. Probably ...350W
