Thread: XP Service Pack 1

  1. Default XP Service Pack 1

I just installed Windows XP Service Pack 1. Since then I cannot get MS FS2002 to open. I get the error message: "FS 2002 has detected 3rd party software that may not be compatible." - traffic.dll. However, I have NOT downloaded or install ANY third party software. Then the uninstall shield would not work, so I had to manually delete the program to reinstall. Reinstalled and still get the problem. The XP info said that it may affect some programs, so I accepted the option to back up files so XP Ser Pack 1 could be deleted and go back to the previous version. Haven't done this yet. Has anyone heard of this problem? FS2002 seems to be the only program affected so far.

Nope. I have seleted both click options Yes, load the third party software, and No, don't load the third party software. In both cases FS2002 does not "load" - it is already "installed."

WinXP and FS2002 both have a traffic.dll file. Unfortunately sometimes it gets confused. The WinXP traffic.dll is located in your drive:\Windows\system32 folder and your fs2002 traffic.dll is located in your fs2002\modules folder. There is also a copy of the WinXP traffic.dll in your drive:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache folder that matches the copy in the drive:\Windows\system32 folder.

    drive:\Windows\system32 and drive:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache - traffic.dll 31K 8/18/2001 12:00PM

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\MODULES - traffic.dll 77K 9/19/2001 7:00PM

Search this site and AVSIM for traffic.dll problems. As I remember, the poster fixed the problem by deleting one of the two traffic.dll(s) in the Windows system but I don't remember which one.

    howdy,
i have xp sp1 as well and no probs (knock on wood) yet.

however, i have the 3rd party software notice whenever i add a module fs2002 doesn't really feel welcome with.

i solve it by going into the fs2002.cfg file and look for an entry called

    [OLDMODULES]

if it isn't there create it, anywhere in the file.

    then list the relevant module.

    for example, i added adf2mod.dll

forgetting to add the line in fs2002.cfg that 3rd party warning came up.

so now my cfg files has this added:

    [OLDMODULES]
    ADF2MOD.DLL=1

i suppose the =1 means yes.

try this out. give it a good go. maybe it will work, at least for now.
