Default Blank Screen with Green Line at top

Boy has this one got me perplexed!!

Whenever I change aircraft during flight, and even on an outside view while panning, the computer locks and displays a blank screen with a green line at top. I have to reboot the computer to get out of this situation.

Specs: AMD 750 with GeForce 3 Titanium and the latest GeForce drivers from 3DGuru, and the latest VIA 4.43 drivers for the mother board. I noticed I'm unable to change refresh rates if this has anything to do with it. The monitor is a Sylvania F97 19inch.

I get super frame rates, but just can't seem to put my finger on the problem. I've suspected Drivers but ------

Thanks for the help, any suggestions will be appreciated.

"and the latest GeForce drivers from 3DGuru"

try the official drivers, not leaked beta ones.

What motherboard do you have? OS? How wide is the green line? (about a 1/4-inch or so?)

Several of the older Slot-A AMD MoBo's with VIA chipset's have a problem like you describe when running Winders98. It has to do with Microsft's built-in TapeBackup software feature (yeah, I know...sounds completely unreleated...but I bet that might be the culprit).

Does your machine lock up occasionally like this on boot too?

There is a way to disable this particular problem...but I can't find it in my notebook of fixes/tweaks right now. A while back I had an Epox board running Win98SE that did this quite frequently until I disabled the tape-backup software (I didn't use that anyway). I've also seen Soyo Slot-A/VIA-chipset MoBo's that suffered from the same problem

Find out the MoBo brand & model #, then search the maker's website "knowledgebase" for the problem. You might want to include DirectX or Direct3D in your search since that's the rendering method that FS uses.

Thanks for the recommendation. I loaded the NVIDIA drivers from the company and so far so good.

    The motherboard is: ASUS A7V KT133 PC-133 4XAGP @ 200FSB UDMA/100 W/O AUDIO SOCKET A ATX,

Also, I don't have a tape drive on the machine, but I'm sure that doesn't negate the software from residing in there somewhere.

The machine on occasion will lock up with a thin (probably 2 pixel lines) of green across the top. In addition, yesterday when I changed to a third party (Dash 7 c1) aircraft the computer immediately rebooted on its' own. Strange - first time I ever saw that. In either case I've reinstalled NVIDIA (not beta) drivers and so far the thing is running.

    Thanks for the input,

In addition, I'm running DirectX8.1b on a windows 98 OS.

I'm experiancing the same problem; They may be associated with certain aircraft. i.e. While parked on the ramp with the Dash7c1, I attempted to load a Flight Plan IFR from TCM to OLM. Upon clicking the select destination button, the computer locked up with the two green lines at the top of the monitor. Additionally while flying the same Dash 7 I attempted to change the current weather and when clicking on the clouds addition button the computer completely rebooted itself.

I duplicated the same actions with the default C182RG in constructing and IFR flight plan from TCM to HIO and had no problem. Even the change of weather enroute did not effect the computer.

Yes I installed the patch for the Dash7c1.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Oggie

This is new to me! I was talking to a computer guru about new motherboards and during the conversation I mentioned the number of times I've had to reload Windows 98 (at least 4 times)on my computer to get FS2002 back up and runnning, and he exclaimed "Windows 98 reloads from the same disk to the same computer isn't much good after four times" - I guess the computer "keeps" some of the operating system onboard even tho you've formatted the hard drive and reloaded windows. The other problem I encountered was the computer would not let me reload my "C" drive backup from IOMEGA - seems there were files in use by windows that would not allow an overwrite. Makes sense I guess, but then what good does it do to backup a C-Drive if you can't overwrite it?

I'm letting off steam and frustration - I think it's time to go get a new motherboard and run it on Windows XP (since FS2002 and subsequent wont run on LINUX).
