Default Question about texturing aircraft models

Hello, I'm making an MD-11. I've made a little webpage where you can see what its progress is.

    http://www.thescorned.homestead.com/md11.html

My question is about texture mapping. I know nothing about painting aircraft or how the texture maps are typically setup. So on a typical aircraft model, how should the texture maps be set up? One texture for the fuselage? Two? How many for the wings? Etc...

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Nice job.

These days there are any number of ways to arrange the textures. The simplest is one long texture for the fuselage and vertical tail, and one (square?) texture for the wings, horiz. tail, and detail parts (fans, wheels, etc.). If you want to use square textures, then you'll need to divide the fuselage (typically into 2 or 3 parts), or use one texture for all the parts (usually too big for that).

BTW, your questions may better be answered at the Aircraft Design forum here, or at the Freeflight forum (address below).

    Hope this helps,
