Default A problem with wind (or lack thereof)

    Ok everyone,
I apologize if this topic has been covered before, but I did a search on the veterans club and got no reference to this. I have a problem with my wind being non-existant at certain airports, mainly in the mid west. For example..let's say I fly from KAEX (Alex, LA) to KRAP (Rapid City, SD). My surface winds will be correct at AEX, but when I arrive at RAP the reported winds are absent. Instead of the 290 @ 12 kts wind, it is calm. I checked the winds tab on local wx and it shows the above conditions, but ATIS reports wind as calm and upon landing I can definitely tell that is so. I thought maybe base altitude, etc were a factor, but everything checked out ok. I don't download winds aloft, but only bc it takes longer. If anybody knows how to correct this prob please let me know :)

The winds are downloaded as calm at lots of airports for me... though not at the big airports. Even if I download weather with winds aloft.

If this is downloaded, then maybe KRAP actually has calm winds. or perhaps the report from that station was missing (missing reports do happen in the real world). The weather tab should be ignored. If it's weather you've set in yourself, then I have no idea.

Because of the way FS blends surface winds with winds aloft, the surface wind reported in the menu will not be what you get on the runway. You'll get sort of an average between the surface wind and the wind at the next reported level. Next time this happens, check the winds at 3000 and 6000 feet. There may also be a glitch because KRAP is a relatively high-altitude airport.
